Did anyone else get huge Josh Gordon vibes watching Harry make those catches in tight coverage? I sure did.

Yes.

IIRC they are pretty much the exact same size.

The Gostkowski whining continues to be bizarre. Guy made 15 of 16 kicks in the post season last year including some huge kicks in the cold against KC but because he had the audacity to miss a 46 yarder in the Super Bowl he is an issue. He's made over 87% of his FGs in his career while playing in a cold weather city. 89% in the post season.

I have an issue with Gostkowski in the playoffs. It isn't about his overall % it is about the particular kicks he misses. Generally the more important the kick and the tighter the game the more likely he is to miss.

This is a fact since 2015. The issues with Gost in the playoffs are very real and I have gone into detailed post about it in the past. It isn't a subjective opinion it is a fact proven by the data. Doesn't mean I want him gone but it is an issue.

If it's not, which one are you keeping? I assume Stidham, but I would like a little more time to assess whether he's the real deal. Hoyer looked poised and it's tough to let go of that security blanket. If he continues to look good in the preseason and we let him go, someone else will snap him up. No way you can put Stidham on the practice squad, for the same reason.

The discussion is not Stidham or Hoyer, that's my point. The discussion is Stidham and Hoyer/nobody.

Some will say, 'He doesn't get great separation." which is kind of an inaccurate statement. My assumption is his route-running and technique will improve. However, what he has you can't teach....his size, ability to box out defenders and catch radius is absurd.

6-3
228lb
99th %tile bench press
38.5 vertical
33" arms
oven mitts for hands (which appear very soft)
quick reaction to the ball
very good body control

You can't teach that stuff. That is pure physical, gifted athletic talent.

Harry is a bluechip talent. It's just a matter of getting on the same page with Brady and improving on the mental aspect.

Shannon Sharpe is the biggest hater. This guy Hayes Brady so much. Did Tom **** his wife?

Brady's reaction to Stidham's TD I noticed it too but I look at it as a positive. Tom knows he has to be great.....and the local media talking heads? Yeah, the goal for them always seems to be making fans feel uneasy or bad about the teams outlook. They seemingly never want to give credit for being good, it's that the other team and or coaching sucks.

I'm on record as saying if Meyers kicks ass as a WR (so far, check) and Berrios kicks ass as a PR/KR and good WR (last night pretty good) Dorsett or Harris are gone.

Agree. Need to see Tom w both of those guys[/Q
Another advantage of Meyers and Berrios is they are signed for three years and
the other guys only one.

Yep and save $2m if Dorsett is not on the 53

I thought Williams was projected to be Brandon Browner 2.0 and what Eric Rowe was supposed to be. That is:

- A tall, physical outside corner who matches up well against tall, physical WRs but who will need safety support over the top for when the WR eventually gets by him (which if he’s peak Browner good, won’t be too often), and who provides solid support on outside runs

- A guy who can line up against the TEs of the world who are just glorified big slot WRs and can be physical and not get beaten by them since they’re slower. Would cover Kelce and free up DMac to exploit his versatility. Would also be solid in run support against these types of TEs, maybe not so much against blocking guys.

If he develops he can be a very solid contributor in that role, but we shouldn’t be thinking lockdown CB as a ceiling with him. Last night it appeared to me they just generally played him as a vanilla outside CB with little safety support, and given that’s not his strength I’m not surprised he just looked Meh out there.

Agreed. It’s just one preseason game and I find it laughable people are already giving the bust label.

I do not recall Gostkowski ever missing an important 2nd half kick in the midst of a close playoff game. Which kicks did he miss?

Denver game gets brought up because the game ended with the Pats losing by 2 but the XP was not particularly important at the time (beyond every kick in the playoffs is important) as it happened in the 1st quarter. If the Pats had gone on the win (like they did against the Panthers in earlier SB when AV missed 2 kicks) no one would have harped on it. Missed a Super Bowl kick against the Eagles due to a bad snap?

Not claiming he is perfect and has missed some kicks you'd like to have but when you compare him to AV he has a significantly better post season % (88.6 vs 81.1) Since 2015 he has made 19 of 22 FGs with his misses being a 53 yarder right before the end of the 1st half in a blowout against the Titans, a kick against the Eagles due to a botched and the 46 yarder this Super Bowl. He has missed a few XPs but none were late in a close game.

Dorsett's spot is in danger if Harris is the better receiver and BB can take over punt duties

I don't believe Dorsett played much in this game. I suspect he is ahead of Harris and not in danger of losing his spot. But, you never know.

Side note: They showed Brady after every TD was scored, and I thought to myself, "Oh boy... some yahoo on sports talk tomorrow is going to be yammering on about how Brady celebrated more when Hoyer threw TD's than he did when Sitdham did... they're gonna try to make it a thing."

It was a thing, it was pretty glaring. Why should they not report on it? As for what it means, here's my wild guess based on the situation:

Brady and Hoyer have been friends for a decade. Brady has really enjoyed having Hoyer back on the team and in QB meetings--not a wide-eyed cub, not a resentful would-be successor, but an actual mature colleague who knows the league. Brady knows that the Patriots would love to save a roster slot by carrying just 2 QBs, and if Stidham progresses too fast he could lose his buddy. So could Stidham please look a little rougher until cutdown day?

I loved the way Stidham was using his eyes last night. There were specific instances where he either froze or moved the safety and his ball placement was impeccable. They have to fix his delivery, but they have time to work on that.

Winovich was also a sight for sore eyes and I have to believe that this will translate to the regular season when the competition level gets more intense. You could tell at Michigan and now at the next level that this is a guy who has had to work on his craft. Stack and shed, inside swim move, rip, long arm, you name it. He has a full set of tools to work with in his belt. This is a guy who probably hasn’t relied on athletic ability alone to win since high school. He’s a workman type. The kind that is usually successful here.

Harry’s hamstring is concerning. One of his best attributes is YAC. Hopefully this isn’t something that lingers into the season. I’m liking what I’m seeing thus far, though.

Isn't Belichick too old to be playing?
