I'm pretty sure Tom's is as motivated as he's ever been after watching his backups performance tonight
BB loved every minute of it.

They looked good but I wouldn't get too hyped ...
The Lions are missing many players on the DL ...
But I was pleased with what we have so far ...

Who from the Lions didn't play?

Ben Watson looked pretty quick on his one catch. TE may be fine...in week 5.

That was my thought too. Hopefully Lacosse is alright, because I think between him as the receiving TE, the last man standing from the blocking TE hopefuls, and Watson as an adequate mix of the two, we'll be alright. It's not gonna be Gronk, but let's be fair: No one was going to be, and I'd say most NFL teams don't have dangerous weapons at TE. It's no longer going to be a strength, but it doesn't have to be a weakness.

If BB had any thoughts of retirement I bet they're off after watching Stidham's play. They can add more Lombardis as long as Brady is here and it looks like he has another Garoppolo or better in the making to add even more. Admittedly it's early but why not think BIG? I bet there are other teams this morning saying "Oh no, not again!"

I absolutely LOVED the 2 catches Harry made. Those type of plays are almost impossible to defend and will add an element to the offense that has been missing in recent years. He seems to play big.

It would be a loss but they have some player's to move in a trade for one but good ones don't grow on trees.

Does anyone know what the Patriots record is for team sacks in a game?

Edit: It seems to be 10, in the Patriots Wild card round game against Jax in the 2005 season playoffs.

LaCosse looked like Gronk on his first catch.

LaCosse looked like Gronk on his first catch.

Well, he ran a seam route and made a good catch. That's about as much as I'll say on that.

But as good as Gronk was as a receiver, what made him special was defenses couldn't key in on a play just because he was out there. They had to respect EVERYTHING. He could maul on run plays, pass block occasionally, and obviously go out for a pass. His well roundedness is what made him so infuriating for DC's.

Lacosse may be able to replicate some of his routes, but he won't give us that kind of versatility. But again, that's the reality for most NFL teams.

Side note: They showed Brady after every TD was scored, and I thought to myself, "Oh boy... some yahoo on sports talk tomorrow is going to be yammering on about how Brady celebrated more when Hoyer threw TD's than he did when Sitdham did... they're gonna try to make it a thing."

Sure enough, it was one of the first things I heard mentioned, so I turned it off and switched to nice, soothing, classical music.

Some will say, 'He doesn't get great separation." which is kind of an inaccurate statement. My assumption is his route-running and technique will improve. However, what he has you can't teach....his size, ability to box out defenders and catch radius is absurd.

6-3
228lb
99th %tile bench press
38.5 vertical
33" arms
oven mitts for hands (which appear very soft)
quick reaction to the ball
very good body control

You can't teach that stuff. That is pure physical, gifted athletic talent.

I think BB wants to prove that he can win a SB without TB, so i don't see him retiring when Brady does.

Questions for people who were able to watch the game:

What was the rest of the Patriots Starting O-line? Patriots.com mentioned Froholdt at LG and St. Louis at RT with Karras at Center.

Did Skipper spend the entire game at LT?

Did Stephen Anderson see time at TE? What about Beck?

Did Christian Sam see time during the game?

Did Kamalu see time on the DL?

Anyone watch the punt coverage team? Was Ebner out there as the Personal Protector?

I keep seeing this thrown around but it doesn't seem to be based on anything real.

How is that a tough decision?
If it's not, which one are you keeping? I assume Stidham, but I would like a little more time to assess whether he's the real deal. Hoyer looked poised and it's tough to let go of that security blanket. If he continues to look good in the preseason and we let him go, someone else will snap him up. No way you can put Stidham on the practice squad, for the same reason.

I didn't pay attention to the OL the entire game, but the starting five was Skipper-Ferentz-Karras-Froholdt-St. Louis, I think. None of the starters (unless Skipper wins the job) played last night.

Did Stephen Anderson see time at TE? What about Beck?

They both played, but I don't recall either do anything on the receiving end. Beck actually had a running play for a few yards, but that's all I can recall.

Did Christian Sam see time during the game?

Did Kamalu see time on the DL?

Sam played in the 2nd half, made a few tackles. Kamalu may have but I didn't notice him if he did.

I think Ebner did not play and Sam had a tackle on ST

Skipper and Ferentz
Didnt notice Anderson
Sam had a tackle
Didn't notice Kamalu. Might have played on the inside
No Ebner. Thought punt coverage was OK.

Ebner is still on PUP. It was Dawson on the one punt I was paying attention for.
