Brady contract situation (Merged - UPDATED:Deal Done)

The contract could be renegotiated exactly the way this one was. Y'all should read the write up Miguel did on the contract.
This contract was renegotiated before the regular season starts. My understanding is that the contract is void at the end of this same season, which is different then what just happened. So are they just waiting for the playoffs to be over to see where/how Brady played to re-negotiate before the season ends, but then for less than what he was to get paid in 2020? That seems dumb for Brady.

Here's the salary cap era Offensive Line that Tom Brady will be depending on for self preservation from the team offering him $45 million:

Is that your favorite band? Why are there dudes dancing with each other?

I'm a supermodel - - we all hang out and do coke!

They're very excited about the prospect of having Tom play behind them.

My understanding is that

1) the contract can NOT be renegotiated during the 2019 season, unless the new cap is low than the old 2019 cap. I don't think that this can happen.

2) Brady's 2020 contract voids on the last day of the 2019 season at which time Brady is a free agent, with no restrictions, including no franchise or transition.

3) If the 2020 contract is re-signed, then that contract could be renegotiated during the 2020 season.

Brady, Belichick and Kraft might have agreed to any number of "understandings". However, my understanding is that any team can come to Brady during the free agent window and make an offer, just like for any other free agent. And, both parties will be able to tailor such a contract, after seeings Brady's then current level of play.

We can guess, but whether Brady plays, and for who, depends on a lot. Personally, I think that several teams might be willing to offer Brady the 2/$62M that would have been Brady's contracted amount with the patriots. And, for me, if Brady is only worth $23M to the patriots in 2019, why would they pay $5M to $10M more in 2020?

Can you elaborate on this a bit? What constitutes a lowball deal? I’m assuming that it couldn’t exceed the amount for the recently negotiated 2019 figure. Is that correct? If so, what could we be looking at?

If he’s not able to sign anything other than a lowball deal, where does that leave us?

Shmessy concentrate version :D

Hey, Mr English Teacher, put......before and ......after those quoted words. The Mrs. knows better.

I'll let you take a make-up on that one to bring up the grade!

Brady's deal has the Patriots on the record for $30 million for 2020 and $33 million for 2021, setting the salary for next year that can be turned into an extension at any time with some or all guaranteed if both sides agree. They just cannot increase the salary in the deal before it voids at the end of the NFL year. Both sides got an agreed upon salary for next year and either can simply let the deal void if it isn't the right thing to do for a 43-year old quarterback who is contemplating moving to NYC.

I think this also tells all the other teams that the Patriots are serious about TFB ending his career in Foxborough, so if you want him you better be prepared to cough up serious money for a 44-year-old. That 2021 year is important. Brady clearly wasn't going to sign anything that didn't get him to the year he turned 45. That is an important signal to any suitors.
The reports said it automatically voids.

For item #1, check out the link to the CBA in an earlier post: Brady contract situation (Merged - UPDATED:Deal Done)

Article 13, Section 8(A)(i) covers this. It’s not the cap hit that matters but the actual salary over the contract period. Under the current deal, Brady will be receiving $85 million over the next 3 years (combination of base salary, bonus, etc - 23m, 30m, 32m). He can renegotiate a new contract between now and prior to the deal voiding, so long as the total cash to be paid in 2019-2021 doesn’t exceed 85m. (Note the salary definition can be found earlier in Article 13).

Because the 2019 salary is largely his old contract. He last did an extension at 2 years for $41m 3 years ago. Since then QB salaries have shot upwards. Brady’s new extension will be marked to market rates.

I don’t know sh!t, but this is what I was assuming.

It would seem strange that Belichick would paint himself into a corner.

I feel like I’m in a game day thread, only 4 weeks early.

Y’all hiring?

Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated has been calling GMs and other contacts anonymously and they are reportedly willing to pay upto $45 m for Brady next year.

This is just starting and it will gather steam all year.

How much would a new team pay Tom Brady in free agency?
I disagree about it "gather(ing) steam." I think it'll die out, and soon. Virtually every story does. If nothing changes, such as Brady and/
or the team making a statement, it will be back once the season's over particularly if Brady has a successful year. Other teams, however, will need to be careful until that happens. My guess is they'll all shut up.
