Training Camp: Joint Practices with Detroit week thread

I think the most disturbing thing for me thus far is the LACK of any comments today about our TE's. You would think that one of them would stand out by this point. It doesn't seem to me like they are even getting many looks from ANY of the QB's. I mean, last season Hollister was at least a camp hero early on. Now we don't even have that.

Did we make a mistake trading him??? LOOK at this HEADLINE!!!

Seattle Seahawks’ Jacob Hollister is as ‘quick as a cat’ and opening eyes in training camp

Right now the lions are showing 6 Tight ends on their roster , I recognise only 4 of them.

...which team has a surplus thats better than what we have ?

The team we're practicing with right now, for one.
Loins' probable TE depth:
Jesse James
TJ Hockenson
Isaac Nauta
Logan Thomas
(Jerome Cunningham/Austin Traylor: tackling dummies)

Perhaps a 6th-round pick swap for Logan Thomas in a couple of weeks, especially if he catches Bill's notice this week?

He has his own thread.
Josh Gordon applies for reinstatement

Some posts there imply that his appeal could take a few months.

The longer Flash Gordon's reinstatement takes the better for us...that means he would more than likely last the season. What's the saying the rivers runs into the sea. Gordon - DT and maybe Meredith. Seriously where could any Team find that much a Talent in week 8 possibly?? That's a pretty sick shadow roster.

He clearly has no problem blocking.

Another thought worth mentioning is from what I saw in my 2 days at camp and in clips is that Harry is a tenacious and physical blocker. I will be interested to see if at some point they send him inside to attack LB's.

Finally, it's becoming clear that Jaime Collins is going to be a lot more than just another decent off season signing. He's looking like he is going to be our "big play" LB this season.
BTW- While I know Dante Hightower is "Mr. February", but for the money we are paying him, I'd like him to make an attempt to add another month or two to that resume. We hear a lot of talk about the kid we picked up from the Raiders. Winovich flashed the last couple of days as well as Rivers and Wise. When are we going to hear about a flash play from the guy who makes the most money in the front 7??????
.

Hightowers pacing himself

“He’s getting more comfortable. He has a live arm, can make any throw,” receiver Phillip Dorsett said. “I like Jarrett. It’s the National Football League, and he’s young. Coming in here is tough. A lot of stuff gets thrown at you really fast and changes on the move, so you have to be able to adjust. He’s doing all right.”

Stidham went 8-for-8 in live team drills against the Lions on Tuesday, per Callahan, and through 10 practices, Stidham has completed 68 percent of his passes.

“He’s got good command. It’s tough being a quarterback on any team, especially on our offense,” running back James White said. “There’s a lot you have to know. He’s trying to put the work in, trying to learn as much as possible, and all of the young guys and us veterans are trying to make him feel comfortable and make some plays for him.”

This may not be a popular opinion but those are the types of hits that should be eliminated from the game.

If you want to block the guy, fine -- get in front of him, shield him from the ball-carrier, get hands on him, etc. But to run full-speed and clip a guy's head with your forearm/shoulder, that's dirty and really needs to be taken out of the game for the sake of the players' brains.

I know we like intense collisions but I'd rather see a cleaner, more technical game with fewer hits that serve no purpose other than to be as violent as possible; makes me cringe when I see them. It'd be quite easy to legislate that type of hit out of the game.

I don't disagree the hit was excessively violent.

As it pertains to that kind of hit should be legislated out of the game...I think its certainly for the benefit of the player's health but it's a slippery slope.

Bedard not impressed with the Pats' receivers:

oh wow Bedard dooming and glooming about a position before they've even played 1 pre-season game

shocking

Bedard Little??

Hopefully we have a steal in Stidham, his tape from 2017 is really impressive.
