As usual she outdoes herself.
Clearly, scoffers who called Brady quackish owe him an apology. He was right, and they were wrong. He was way ahead of his time in perceiving the evils of an NFL culture based on heavy weightlifting and painkillers and ditching them for a range of unconventional training methods. His elastic, tenacious body is the empirical proof, more convincing than any lab result. Of all of Brady’s time-defiant feats, maybe the most impressive one is his physical resilience over the past decade from the age of 32 onward: In nine of his past 10 seasons he has started all 16 games. The only thing that could keep him off a field was NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s tyrannical suspension in 2016.

She's spot on, as always. I'm pretty sure a bunch of the stuff Brady practices is nonsense, but clearly a lot of it isn't. Whatever you think about his routine and some of his specific beliefs re: lifestyle and fitness (I'm pretty sure he'd still be just fine if he ate tomatoes), the sum total of it is clearly that it's worked for him and as Pats fans I'm sure none of us would have it any other way.

Great piece from Jenkins, as usual. Also, as usual, I'd recommend skipping the comments.

Jenkins was one of the very few media writers that had our back in Deflategate......

Wow, I've always seen Jenkins as one of the most perceptive sport writers....I had no idea she wrote history also. That's a great story about the South/Civil War and Reconstruction. I'm going to look for that book.

Thanks for the video!

.

I think what Brady doesn't tell us is he is an expert at Kama Sutra ... it's working.

Many people could follow his regime and not approach his level of success.

Tom Brady has what is most likely the strongest hatred of losing in the history of sports. A deep hatred of losing will always prevail over a love of winning...

Sally Jenkins rocks. Always has always will.

Due to your response, I went back to that post and watched the video. My two take-aways were that I was blown away a person like that existed, in Mississippi of all places. And that Jenkins was not all about sports! Thanks.

The curious case of Benjamin Brady

Down here in Washington, I've been reading her for many years. Her column is an antidote for the drivel that appears in the rest of the Post.

Once I saw this thread started with Sally Jenkins, I knew it would be unbiased and spot on unlike usual suspects mediots* "Don't let their biased hatred agenda get in a way of facts"

Tom Brady practices the fundamentals daily

Fat chance any of the flunkies and hacks in these parts who claim to be "columnists" could assemble enough words in their vocabulary to author such an outstanding piece.

Or anywhere, frankly. Writers like Jenkins don't grow on trees. FYI, from her Wikipedia page:

"She has been named the nation's top sports columnist by the AP sports editors four times. She is the author of a dozen books and received the National Press Foundation's chairman citation in 2017."

The woman is gifted.

I read her book on Pat Summit. A spectacular read.

I'm a big golf fan and I pretty much bought Golf Digest for her dad Dan's work.
