Training Camp: Joint Practices with Detroit week thread

Outside of today...he has had the most receptions 11-on-11...

Berrios' numbers aren't great but they aren't god awful. Still on the outside looking in but if he ratchets it up it'll get real interesting.

Here's the thing about Meyers that I'd be worried about. He sounds like a guy who might be able to thrive against zone coverages, but struggle greatly vs good man coverages.

So with DThomas, and JGordon sitting in the wings, he's a nice camp story.

While that could end up true, Lazar notes that Meyers has been getting open frequently including off man coverage:

Outside of the top 10-15 WRs in the NFL, the majority of them will get contained by high end man corners. Michael Thomas was just handed $100 million & he struggled towards the end of the year vs. press man (specifically v Byron Jones). I think his skillset could translate to a good complimentary WR like Sanu or Lafell but that remains to be seen if he’s for real or all camp hype. Leading the team in 1st team receptions is eye opening though.

He has to take over PR / KR like you said...otherwise the numbers are going to get him...even still it might not matter.

Yep. Even if he does pass Harris he's still behind JE, Henry, Dorsett and Meyers. He needs to nail the ST game. Thats his ticket.

I'll deal with Josh, DT and Meredith when they become reality.

7-14, it’s pretty bad. As many opportunities as others but drops half of them. Sorry quoted wrong person.

There are so many variables that go into player evaluation. I'd not put too much stock in:

- What the Media is reporting (they only can view practice the same way we do and they CANNOT watch every player...anyone who has gone to TC before knows this).

- The number of receptions/targets/drops a receiver has (sometimes it depends on who is being watched, who the QB is reading, which personnel grouping we are practicing with, injury status of other WR's, level of competition said WR is facing....etc..)

Only the position coaches and BB really know where everyone stands. These guys watch film with the knowledge of what each player's assignment was. They see players in the training room, meeting rooms, and etc.... the Media will never have that kind of access. We will not know anything concrete until the 3rd preseason game vs. the Panthers, IMO.

Dorsett’s numbers are a bit worrisome...

I don't know what kind of routes he is running or who has been matched up on him. If hes been matched up against Gilly and JC good luck.

Dorsett is a very average NFL receiver. Hes a known quantity IMO.

No you aren't wrong. 7-14 is not great at all. My understanding is JJ has been matched up w/ him on 1/2 of his targets. As we all know JJ has been having a monster camp.

Interesting thing to note in Harris not getting many targets the last couple of days. These are PRACTICES not games. Has anyone thought to ask that the reason why Harris hasn't been targeted much recently is that because these are PRACTICES, the staff might want to get to see what some of the OTHER receivers have for a PRACTICE or two. Up to this point Harris has shown what HE has, now it's time to see what others can do.

GEESSS, while I find some of the practice stats a BIT interesting, some of these geeks are taking it way out of hand with their analysis of the data at hand.

Jakobi Meyers and Tacko Fall are my two new favorite Boston athletes.

But if the Pats have a running game even if Meyers runs like a tortoise it won't matter...he'll be open anyway. Remember Edelman wasn't suppose to be as good as he's been according to draft experts. Maybe they figured how to scheme Meyers open which shows he has good knowledge of our Playbook and Brady trust him.

I guarantee Matt Patricia is going to raid us come cut downs. Wouldn't mind Jesse James via a trade Lions seems stocked at TE.

Meyers had a knack for getting open in college as well...it’s not just NE’s schemes.

Lions will not do that.
