NFL 100 Greatest - Which Pats Will Make The List?

I looked at the 2010 list. No kickers. Brady was 21st (the 7th QB on the list out of 19). Hannah 24th. Haynes 49th. Moss 65. That’s it. Gronk will be on.

Haynes is one of the most underrated football players of all time. Top 5 corner of all time and nobody mentions him.

Yeah, let's keep in mind that this committee isn't going to disrespect the work of the panel in 2010 by ignoring that list, and it was released through a significant NFL films production (which I guess they are doing again for 2020). In fact, I'd wager that their actual task is to see who has emerged in the past 10 years that would replace someone on that list, rather than starting from scratch.

Belichick was on Sirius NFL the other day and expressed how honored he was to do this, and how much fun it was for him. Only thing he gave away was that, to him, L Taylor is #1 of all time.

So Gronk is the one guy, I think, that might be added based on performance this decade. Other TE's are Mackey, Gonzalez, and Winslow. There are a handful of names in the bottom 20 that don't quite belong there, IMHO.

It's just a reference point and there are some on that list that are clearly sentimental choices (i.e., Namath).

Not sure what the "rules" are for the top 100. If it is the 100 most important then there will be a disproportionately high number of QB's and very few if any special teams players.

Brady & BB should easily take the top spots
Hannah is likely top 30
Moss - top 40
Gronk - top 80
I was waiting for someone to mention the Hog. He was a game changer in his prime and helped redefine the OL position

He was mentioned by the OP.

Brady was top 100 only halfway through his career. Awesome.

This fall the NFL Network will have a 6 part series on the top 100 players and top 10 coaches ever. Bill Belichick is one of the co-hosts.

What Patriots will make the list? These are the very best of the best so it will be a tough list to crack.

My thoughts

Guaranteed

Brady
Belichick
Hannah

Likely

Gronk
Moss

Maybe

Vinatieri
Do coaches count?

No way on earth is a kicker one of the best 100 players in the history of the nfl.

I wonder how many of the voters besides BB know anything about the first 50 years of the NFL. For example your RB list includes only 1 player who played before 1975. Will the Frank Giffords and Paul Hornugs of their positions get fair consideration in the voting?
Agree with your point, but Gifford and Hornung aren’t close. Better examples would be Jim Taylor, gale sayers, OJ, csonka, perry, and I’m sure I’m missing others without going back to Thorpe, grange, nagurski days.

I sure wouldn’t put one on. But I do wonder if the romanticizing of Vinatieri’s longetivity in the league combined with the GW SB kicks will get him a low spot just inside the list.

Also, do remember that BB is a part of this panel. So don’t be shocked if Russ Francis somehow shows up on this list. ;)

Brady has to be number one (unless it includes coaches). Hannah was before my time..
Moss surely is on, Gronk also has to be on(?) unless they are excluding the TE position.
Not so sure a kicker is one of the greatest 100 players ever tho..

If Brady isn’t number 1, I’ll be pi$$ed...

There are more than 100 OL alone that belong higher on the list than any kicker.

Vince Wilfork, Hannah, Haynes, Brady, Gronk, Moss, and Belichick.

I don't consider Darrelle Revis a Patriot, but he was the best at his position for a long time.

Sadly I don't think Tippett is a top 100 LB, and Vinatieri should be on the list, but kickers don't get in.

We are talking about the top 100 of players to ever play in the NFL. Russ Francis isn’t anywhere near that vicinity.

Have you heard Bill talk about Francis

100 players + 10 coaches is what they are doing, and I don't believe they are actually ranking the players.

Who are the 10 coaches? BB, Lombardi, Halas, Brown, Landry, Shula, Walsh?, Gibbs?, Noll, others

The coaching list likely will have more guys from prior eras. BB has shown too bright in this one.

I predict Brady, Hannah, Moss. I’d hope Gronk. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s it.
