Two Thuney tidbits

Yea. I'm not questioning his intelligence or his grade. Just an odd tidbit. I just picture Thuney done w the test and looking around....
Maybe he took the first 2.5 minutes off.

He graduated NC State in just 3 years. He was his HS class president his senior year and was part of 2 HS state champions. Smart, popular and successful is a way to go through life and soon this former 3rd round pick will be very rich.

If Thuney moves to LT then he’s gone. Lucky for us tackles will be clamoring to come protect Brady’s blindside. It will basically be a one year wait to hit the lotto.

Agree. I hope they find a way but if he hits FA he'll be the highest paid OG in football and the NEP are already paying Shaq Top 10 money.

This bum has an overall grade of 84 on Madden. Bill May be too scared to trade ‘em, but when that game launches later this week, he’s the first one gone. Hopefully I can score a 5th rounder for ‘em. o_O

They stretched the ratings scale this year so better players have lower ratings. 84 is borderline star now.

Cannon restructure
Thuney extension
Mason and Andrews already locked up
Rookie contract player in Wynn

O-line will be set for years, if they get Thuney's deal worked out.

Then Brady's extension, perhaps...

I expect Cannon to be traded next off season. A borderline all pro RT making 5 mill a year for two more seasons is a very valuable piece. They seemed pretty impressed with Skipper so far and Cajuste will likely be a RT/Swing tackle also. With Andrews, Thuney and Mason all making good money it is a nice way to balance out the money per grouping.

I hope they do extend Thuney.
Mason , Andrews and Thuney on long term would be great. I don't have the knowledge to discuss the cap implacations very well but I guess what you pay in one group causes less money elsewhere on the team.

I wonder if the Cannon restructure was done to clear cap space in anticipation of a Thuney extension, since the signing bonus should increase his cap hit this year.

Yep. Patriots LT for the last 2 years both got record breaking contracts.

Maybe extend Thuney now at LG money, then move him to LT

Remember when people whined about Belichick drafing Mason & Thuney?

I thought people actually liked the Mason pick, though most assumed he'd move to center. But Thuney, hoo-boy! Here's a vintage PatsFans user response to that pick:

This T-Rex-armed 5th-round talent wasn't even the best Joe on the OL available. That other Joe was LG/T Joe Dahl, whom Detroit stole at 151.

(Joe Dahl remains a benchwarmer for Detroit's mediocre line.)

As many have noted, this would be the perfect time to extend Thuney. It is increasingly looking like he will at least start the year at LT, and if he plays decent there (which I think is likely) his value would sky rocket. Heck, Brown got $66M / 4 yrs for a solid but not stellar year with the Patriots at LT.

If they plan to play him at LT part of this year extending him now makes complete sense. Really, it is likely the only way they will be able to afford him next year, give him a little more security (and many more $$$) now as opposed to REALLY striking gold later, but with the important risk of injury and/or not being to handle LT.

As long as Thuney ends up with guard money, and not LT money, I don't see why there'd be any need to move Cannon. The LT (Wynn) will be on a rookie deal, keeping the total OL money reasonable.

To be fair to the board, though, that poster, if he had been present at the miracle of the loaves and fishes, would have complained about the lack of butter and tartar sauce.

Captain?

I know. I’m actually really interested to see how the numbers squish works out. I still think he’s a bit underrated. Didn’t mean to hijack to a Madden conversation, my bad. I was just trying to point out how unheralded the guy is. Would be nice if we could keep him around. He’s not perfect, and he’s not a top 5 guy, but he’s pretty damn dependable and has been a valuable asset to the team since he was drafted.

And that huge sum was paid to plug him in at RT!
