Day 3 Training Camp (Real practice begins)

You have a false perception of Dorsett. He does not spread the field. He is not a consistent threat to get open. He struggles getting consistent separation. He won't win more than his share of 50/50 balls. Hes a nice WR4 who doesn't play STs. Thats his role and can absolutely be upgraded.

Pats are not loading up on "slot" guys. They are loading up on WRs with size who can play all WR positions that can fight for balls and be physical.

If any of the bigger WRs can contribute Day 1 and shows a higher ceiling than Dorsett he is gone.

Big tall receivers are slow. The few exceptions are Top 10 picks. Did you see the practice notes on Joe Juan covering Dorsett? Higher ceiling is not important - they will not instantly be fast. Gordon and Dorsett are fast, the others are OK.

Baring injury, Dorsett will be on the 53 in Sept. Maybe we can bet free drinks all night at the Wachusett Country Club the second Friday in September on Dorsett being on the 53?

I mean ceiling as in improvement. Dorsett is what he is.

Maybe not all night because I'm cheap and I don't want to drive home smashed but if Dorsett is on the 53 i'll buy you a couple.:p

We might as well have a PatsFans meetup at WCC. Jackson 2 lives nearby as well.

Interesting dilemma for Pats and Thuney concerning his next contract. Do the Pats attempt to resign him now before his price possibly goes up if he performs well as a LT? Does Thuney's agent reject any offers now and gamble that he does well and goes for LT money as a free agent in 2020. Will Pats consider franchising him in 2020?

Dorsett is what he is. The WR with the highest catch rate on the roster last year.

I live in Shrewsbury - it is a nice ride up 140 on my Harley.

Are people here already trying to grease the skids for Dorsett? He's the WR2-WR3 right now, and the players trying to get in front of him are players who he was better than last year. Let's at least wait until the first exhibition game before piling dirt on a probable non-corpse.

...and barely above Dwayne Allen in YPC.

I have a good feeling for Stidham...

Before the draft I wrote a extensive analysis of why the Patriots absolutely would NOT draft Stidham. Evidently BB didn’t agree, so I won’t repeat the arguments here.

...Now he is looking kind of good in training camp.

...I am starting to think that the fates plan to make Stidham into a future star with the sole purpose being to make me look like an idiot (again). ;)

Ryan Hannable in a latest WEEI column suggests that by not shutting down the Houston rumors it indicates he is giving it serious thought because he will be the one calling the shots. IMO Bill O'Brien won the power battle and will continue to have the final say so what does Caserio gain by leaving other than possibly more money.

I assume they tried to sign Thuney when they signed Mason. Since Thuney did not sign (or they did not want to tie up too much money on OG), I assume he is gone. Another 3rd round comp. pick in 2021. I am not convinced Thuney will play LT, just waiting a few weeks for Wynn to step in.

They could not sign Thuney that early. After 3 years of service yes, which is now.
