Pats re-sign Josh Gordon

Is it possible Goodell is waiting this long just to keep an eye on how Josh's rehab is going? It's no doubt he'll be suspended but maybe Goodell will allow him to participate in TC and maybe be a little more lenient on amount of games he'll have to miss. JG may need to be in a team environment and not letting him practice until the season opener could be counterproductive for Josh. C'mon Goodell, use some common sense and free Josh.

I doubt the Patriots re-signed him without knowing where the league was coming from on the terms of the suspension. I think he will be eligible in October if he keeps it together. This may well be his last chance, I hope it works out for his sake.

why? He doesn't count against the cap as long he is suspended.

So clearly Josh is gonna get cleared to play any day now that the league is is letting guys like Hill off Scott free right?

Sentenced for life instead

This case makes the NFLs handling of the entire deflategate debacle seem even worse.

Here you actually have a tape of someone with a documented history of DV threatening his partner as well as his child "magically" coming up with injuries and taken over by child protective services and yet we and the Pats had to sit through the **** show that was "more probable than not" when it came to an outlandish claim completely contradicted by science and that nobody really ever cared about before.

It truly is a clownshow.

If Gordon wants to be reinstated, he better demand a trade to Kansas City in the very near future. No way he’s getting any breaks as a Patriot.

Unfortunately THAT's what I think will happen. In order to respond to the backlash that he's gong to get from this fiasco, I wouldn't be surprised to see Goodell come down hard on Gordon just to show how tough he is. Hypocrisy is on one of Goodell's strengths.

So it helps them and hurts us. Seems fair.

Great summary,

I especially appreciated the phrase, "...the Pats had to sit through the **** show that was "more probable than not" when it came to an outlandish claim completely contradicted by science that nobody really ever cared about before. "

I remember my brother's reaction (a die-hard Giants fan) during Belichick's Mona Lisa Vito press conference, "Deflated footballs? Who gives a s##t? Brady and Belichick would have beaten Harbaugh and Pagano if they'd used Roger Goodell's head instead of a football."

If the ifs come to fruition watch out.

Some team is probably going to have to play us with Jules, Gordon, and Thomas on the field at the same time. Hopefully more than one.
Plus Gronk too

Gronk won't come back.

The bottom line is that we are a different football team with Gordon. Averaged 32 per game and the passing game was working.

It was a struggle without Gordon. We averaged 27 and Brady struggled at times.

I don't see Goodell giving us Gordon. Goodell wants a different team to win the SB this year, see Hill case

No need to overthink it, Goodell just doesn't like babies.

While true, I thought the shift to a dominant running attack, that complemented an improving D, was the turning point of the season.

I’m not against the JG signing, but I truly believe the team got better once he was gone. Yes, much of it was an amazing D, but the running was key. And I’m not sure how much BB commits to that style if Gordon remains.

Gordon was very good on PA passes so I think it would be best to combine them. My question is how effective the run game will be without Gronk and Trent Brown. It sure could be as good or even better with healthy RBs but I wouldn't feel too good to completely rely on it. Now, if you could tell me that the defense is at least as good as the 2nd half of the season and the rushing attack will be as good as these last 5 games over this season, then yes we don't need Gordon.

I'm a huge Josh Gordon fan and I really want to see him back on the field with the Pats. But, one of the things that really pisses me off is when someone (like a guy in my local bar yesterday and a guy on talk radio this morning) says, "Josh Gordon keeps getting suspended for smoking a little weed and (fill in a name) gets off Scott- free for (fill in some despicable offense.). "Josh Gordon's history of substance abuse is not confined to "smoking a little weed." Weed has just been a small part of it. Name the substance, and he's likely abused it. Hopefully, he's better and will help the Pats greatly this season. But, he's not, and never has been, just a weed guy.

Gordon could have used every substance on earth and I wouldn't give a **** as long as he didn't harm anyone. So yeah, it's still stupid to me that someone else has gotten off for actual bad stuff while a guy who is doing his job and getting high gets suspended.

Goodell won’t reinstate Gordon. Take that to the bank
