I think he may have actually saved her from possibly hitting the rocks by pulling her towards him since she hesistated at the last second.

Not sure that is my cup of tea, but there was a lot of communication between dad & Vivian prior to this taking place.. "Are you sure you want to do this??" Followed by head nod.. appears that she has had the opportunity to take more than a few risks with dad.

Irresponsible?? Not at all.. leaving her on that precarious perch may have been irresponsible..

That really isn't anything out of the norm.

It goes for million things in life that if you do a little mistake somewhere you could die, be seriously injured etc. You are often inches away from disaster. So I don't think this was especially dangerous.
