Without cap Patriots would have won a couple more Super Bowls.
Cap management is what gives them their tremendous advantage.

Carrol was sabotaged by a GM who might have had the 3 worst draft classes in Patriot history in a ROW! (interesting that his kid is the GM in Miami now and is reportedly doing a great job) So Carroll ended up having rosters that were top heavy with good players but were never deep enough to survive the injuries that occurred to starters.Carroll would’ve been a good coach but their drafting was their downfall. Also, they couldn’t replace Curtis Martin which exposed Bledsoe and the O-line who were aging. For the younger Pats fans, they tried to trade up for Edgerrin James in ‘99, Jamal Anderson and then Priest Holmes before he blew up in KC.
Their defense was also really old in the front 7 with McGinest always injured. It seemed as though every one of their draft picks were flushed down the toilet.
He was big time for USC and they were considered our pro football team out here in LA. The players during that time were celebrities like Leinart and Bush. It was a crazy time.
Fangio is a great, great coach. Will be interesting how his reputation will be if Flacco stinks.

There are equipment managers in this league better than him. I could name dozens of assistants more qualified.
Pom Pom was not good here but BIG was negligent as GMCarrol was sabotaged by a GM who might have had the 3 worst draft classes in Patriot history in a ROW! Still he never had a losing season and probably would have kept his job but for 2 Vinitieri clangs during the 1999 season that cost them 2 games.
The media wasn't his friend either. They went out of their way to trash his "west coast style" and up tempo demeanor. They were merciless....just because he wasn't their buddy, Bill Parcells.
(aside: I strongly think Parcells is NOT worthy of entry into the Pats HOF, but if there were a HOF for HC's who handle the media, he'd be a first ballot entry, because NObody had the media wrapped around his fingers more than Bill Parcells. Good coach, but OUTSTANDING media manipulator and self promoter.)
Real question is, does Brady ever see the field with any other HC, or is he riding the pine as backup behind a better pedigree (like Drew Henson)?Obviously. The better question is, how many rings does Brady win with another coach and does Belichick win a ring at all with a different QB?
But they have Scar. His salary should count double in that total because of the effect he has on the players’ performance. And yet the Patriots actually have one of the lowest total payrolls for the OL (around 27th, I think).
Yup. There are a lot of coaches who would never have given a 6th-rounder a chance. If Brady ends up with one of those, then bounces around between a couple of similar teams he could have ended up a career backup or out of football after 5 years.Real question is, does Brady ever see the field with any other HC, or is he riding the pine as backup behind a better pedigree (like Drew Henson)?
And given that Belichick already won a ring as DC, for a HOF game plan that meant more than the HC, the question regarding him is not if but rather how many.

He would’ve beat out some starter or took over for someone getting benched somewhere eventually. There’s been lot of terrible QB play in the NFL for many years.Yup. BB even made room to keep him on the team even though they just signed Bledsoe to a record setting contract, signed John Friez as the veteran backup and Michael Bishop as the 2nd year QB with mobility and a rocket arm. Keeping 4 QB’s on a team was unheard of during that time, but BB knew Brady would’ve been scooped up by another team.
As a younger fan, I've always thought it was weird that Pete Carroll was the coach here before BB. Seems even weirder that he's good now.
