Mike Freeman - Gronk comeback?

Retirement papers are a total red herring either way, since they can be trivially revoked. Filing papers in no way prevents a player from coming out of retirement. Nor does filing them terminate a team's rights to the retired player.

Ok, but the point was that if Gronk wanted to be 100% retired he would have filed his retirement papers by now. Poor choice of words.

No doubt Gronk looks thin in that photo. But if you look at his IG account he has pics from very recently we’re he doesn’t look nearly that thin. So who knows, it could be shopped or just a weird pic.

I’d think his chance to come back as slim :D

I can see where Vollmer is coming from, OL are expected to maintain their size. The difference is that Gronk could, at least in theory, come back as a move TE that still creates size mismatches. He doesn’t have to come back at 270 he could come back at 250 and still get it done. I’m not saying that will happen, but unlike Vollmer Gronk can shapeshift and still play in the NFL.
Exactly - I don't get all this hand-wringing about the weight he has lost as though he would suddenly get knocked all over the field by cornerbacks or linebackers if he only weighed 250 pounds.

A new page? Sweet, another page with which I can drunkenly remind your dumbasses that Gronk *will* be back and you'll have to s my d when I'm vindicated.

If a retired Rob Gronkowski is needed to save the season, then the Patriots are in trouble

Even if Gronkowski wanted to return, there is no certainty the Patriots would even get the same version of the player they had last season. While the talk of his potential weight loss is a subject he has fought back on, he has looked noticeably slimmer in recent public appearances, which is indicative of a man that has moved on from the tedious grind of being a professional athlete...

If the Patriots sink to the point where Brady actually has to pick up the phone and call him out of retirement to save the team, then the Patriots are in deep trouble, and I’m talking about the not repeating as Super Bowl champions sort of trouble.

I am curious to know what percentage of retired is he presently?

Can I have two guesses?

89% or 69%

69%? Whoah! I did not think of that...

TommyBrady12 owes you some lobstah for saving his bacon...

You stated he was not 100% retired. That sounds impossible however Tony saved your bacon. Gronkowski is 69% retired.

100% retired means he’s 100% not coming back.

Serious question: how long does he need to be away to be considered 100% retired? 1 year? 2 years? 5 years? How many? Post a guess.

Actually I so wonder where he will go and what he will do. Remember all of the rumors of him joining the WWE or making films? He will probably start a business or buy real estate instead.

When he files his retirement papers and says he will come back under no circumstances or when the Patriots hold a retirement presser. You don't think it's odd that the Pats did not hold a press conference for Gronk like they've done for other Patriots greats when they announce their retirement? The fact that Bill didn't even bother drafting or trading for a young TE? Gronk himself said there is some wiggle room as to him returning.

No but as long as we have the internet and talk radio people can fantasize.

Gronk himself said there is some wiggle room as to him returning.

I asked you a few days ago to specifically find a link of him saying this and you could not find one.

There are 3 things that need to be considered: 1) "what is true" 2) "what can happen" 3) wishful thinking

  • What is true: Rob Gronkowski IS retired

  • What can happen: legally he can apply for reinstatement

  • Wishful thinking: Rob Gronkowski re-joins the team and plays like he is in his prime

Personally the way i see it, the moment a team gets the cap space back a player is retired. Whether they later decide one way or the other doesn't matter. As a coach/GM you can't count on that happening in any way.

And pretending we didn't adjust for Gronk being gone after drafting a WR in the first round is the equivalent of putting your fingers into both ears. You have to look at the offense as a collection of roles in a more holistic way and not position by position.

Will a single player replace Gronk ? No, and nobody available whether in the draft, FA or via realistic trades could anyway. The offense will evolve into something else and that might just be exactly what we need anyhow.

A couple things. Of course Belichick has to move on, even if Gronk told him he’s coming back (can’t count on hin). But there is some cap space left $6.5 million) if Gronk wanted to make a mid-season return. If he comes back after the bye week, then a $3-4 million contract is not unreasonable for the remainder of 2019. Second, we don’t know what kind of offense we will have without him - more 3 WR sets? Perhaps, but we’ll find out soon enough.

I already gave you the article where he says coming back is a possibility. Does that sound like someone who won’t come back under any circumstances?

Rob Gronkowski is enjoying retirement, but admits he doesn't know how he'll feel when Patriots season starts
