Patriots linebacker Elandon Roberts says he was harassed at home by police

Zzzzzzzzz.

I'm so tired of the "poor me" BS..

Obey the law.

Lol at the cop who follows him home rather than instantly turning on the sirens and pulling him over for “speeding”. Then he yells at him for getting out of the car. Yeah, I’d be a little pissed off too if I was ER given he has no idea what’s happening.

This cop sounds like a f**king idiot how he handled this. “Big black guy”. Told his wife she’ll be arrested if she doesn’t go back inside? Wow!

He’ll be suspended or fired soon.

Not only that but he tells the wife to go inside from the garage and to close the garage door.

Like this guy? The cop got reinstated just to get his pension after murdering this poor bastard

Yes. Exactly.

Because it only happens the black peop...
I mean colored peo..

I mean African americans...

Please..

This white boy, honkey, cracker, whatever, doesn't give a crap.

All people get harassed.

Some cry more than others

As a 23 year LEO still on the job this was an interesting thread to skim through. I watched the video as well and there was some things I would have done differently but that comes with doing the job as long as I have. As a supervisor who has reviewed my officers bodycam footage there is an opportunity here to discuss with this officer some strategies so that this encounter could possibly have gone a little bit smoother. But for the most part the officer acted accordingly he said all the things that you will hear during a traffic stop (which is the most dangerous encounter for law enforcement). However, I find that you can discuss the reason for the stop and the actions being taken but if you are willing to talk to people and give them a minute to voice their concerns generally things go better whether the officer chooses to issue a summons or warn and release.

...and getting out of the car? A big no-no.

Yeah, they don't like that.

My opinion: Everybody just cool their jets, let the cops do their job, cops do your job professionally, end of the story.

Yep and the sheriff agrees.

Here’s an explanation by the Sheriff. Watkins was a rookie who freaked out.

“Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said during a news conference that he spoke with Roberts and his attorney and said the deputy should not have taken so long with the March 10 traffic stop.”

“Deputy Adam Watkins was wrong to order Roberts’ wife back inside the home when she saw flashing lights and stepped outside.”

“Nehls criticized USA Today for publishing an edited version of the stop that he believes was misleading. The sheriff also criticized those who turn the encounter “into a racial issue.”

He was found not guilty in a court of law. Publish what was disclosed in court which led to the not guilty verdict please.

Lack of experience is the key factor here, certainly not race. Its just frustrating in these times that so quickly everything becomes a race issue. I go out of my way on a daily basis to fight misconceptions about law enforcement. Are we perfect? Absolutely not but the majority of the men and women out there on the job go to work everyday with the mission to help those that cannot help themselves or have been wronged and put evil people in jail where they belong. Just like every profession there are good pizza delivery drivers and bad we are no different. Its just that the media focuses on the very small percent of officers who got out of line. Those folks will always either be fired, resign or arrested. They weed themselves out given time, unfortunately sometimes at others expense. If anyone is interested I could break down "Monday morning quarterback" critical factors during this encounter. I offer this as some of the comments made me chuckle and to give some insight.

LMFAO, Andy arguing with Andy, classic! Who will win? This could go on forever.

Great! That certainly clarifies everything....I get it now, it can’t be a race issue due to a lack of experience. What was I thinking.

And oh yeah, his boss said it wasn’t race because he has nothing to gain by making that statement. Good to get past that

Drives 59 in a 35. Gets out of the car because he's "home". Like this is tag and he made it to home base? Getting out of the car usually gets a gun drawn on you.

It's the cops fault for not pulling him over quickly enough? How do you know? He might have been right near his house.

Then he pulls the "harassing a black man in his driveway" nonsense. Ignoring the 59 in a 35 completely and left the vehicle when every sane person knows you don't do that. He was just minding his own business at home! Pure harassment!

Hundreds of cops killed every year and this is the nonsense they have to put up with?

He was on the bubble before. Sayonara.
