How to get friends/relatives into Patriots

A friend from Chicago was a casual Bears fan, but Gronk and Edelman won her over to the Pats.

I usually start with something light. A week straight of being strapped into a chair with the same Pats highlights playing over and over to “This is the End” by The Doors on repeat. If that doesn’t do it, I usually waterboard them. If they persist after that, I’ll rip finger nails and toe nails out with needle nose pliers, put cigs out on their testicles, electrocute them with low voltage, and finally rip their skin off (starting with their feet) and dipping the affected body part into hydrogen peroxide.
Thanks, man!

I've always wondered how the hell all these unfortunate people accepted the flying elvis.

I shoulda known.

A buddy of mine is a diehard JEST fan who was about to have his first child. I had a pre birth intervention. I pointed out the half century of JEST disappointment and suggested he allow his newborn to become a Pats fan...”let the kid experience the joy of winning instead of the gloom and doom of constant failure.”
His response: “ Fu$k that..... Jets baby all the way”
Some species never evolve. JEST fans and co$kroaches come to mind

You're actually friends with one of those animals?! :O

Can't say I care who likes or doesn't like the Patriots in my inner circle ... irrelevant.

I don't run into even casual NFL fans who don't already have a team unless they are foreigners who don't follow the game at all. I've got some such colleagues to start watching football which to me is a win, regardless of which team they eventually adopt. I did teach the game to one guy at my house for SB36 so that was fun.

I bought my 3 kids champion shirts after SB51 and 53. My middle child got sucked in during the 28-3 comeback. She watched SB52 with me, but didn't grasp the severity of the strip sack until I explained it to her. She thoroughly enjoyed the KC AFCCG and when Michel scored the TD in SB53, she realized how huge that was. My oldest couldn't care less and my youngest thinks football, basketball and hockey are all the same sport so it's up to my middle one to keep the Patriots love alive when I'm gone.

Regards,
Chris

Did you record that conversation? It could be used as evidence to justify child welfare agency intervention and foster care.

Spoke with my JEST buddy recently.... his kid is 10 now. Asked him if he brings his kid to JEST games (season ticket holder).
Answer: once
Explanation: JEST fans are horrible people who act like animals at games and his kid was scared to death by the crazies who just yelled obscenities and picked fights the entire game.
Still, he doesn’t regret inflicting his kid to a lifetime of losing.
No surprise this family are Mets fans as well.

If your friends are not into this team by now then I would guess it is only Oscar parties with them. As far as your children to be. Take them to a training camp practice when they get around 5. They will either love it or want to go home. If you are always watching the games they will get intrigued

Getting your kid to root for a losing team -- not necessarily a bad thing (kid will learn to deal with disappointment). Getting your kid to root for a team whose fans are losers -- child abuse.

Why don't we just keep this Patriots thing amongst us, okay?

For my engineer wife....and any other engineer/scientist worth their salt (Not Bill Nye)...just explain the Deflategate scandal.....

Works like a charm. I parlayed my wife's rage into tickets to Superbowl 51.....LOL.

My situation is hopeless. My girlfriend who is from Colombia and who is psycho crazy about soccer keeps asking me why this sport isn't called "handball" because after all, hands are involved most of the time. I have tried every trick I can think of to try and get her involved, but no luck.

Even bought her a Brady jersey which is folded up somewhere in her closet, gathering dust.

Does she play chess?

Hello, everyone! Recently, I have been wanting to get some friends into Patriots football but don't want to come off as overbearing or annoying in advertising them to them.
I would not do this. How would you feel about a friend trying to get you into soap operas or the wrong cable news network? Let it go.

What's your strategy with friends or maybe even your own kids. Do you showoff highlights, invite them to games or ramble for hours about them? Eventually I will also want a son or daughter of my own on that note so I ask a second question for mothers/fathers of Pats Fans.
How about toss a football around with your kid? Take him to a game? Tailgate? My interest in football was due to the camaraderie of attending a game with my father and the guys he worked with or with my father and his brother.

For others, get a big television and throw parties on Sundays. Enjoy the party and see if people get into the games.

Do your kids like Patriots football? If so, how did you get them into it?
No.

Don't worry about the kids angle. You'll have them brainwashed before their first memory. Haha.

I wouldn't recruit anyone to become a patsfan. As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to utopia but you can't force it to drink from the fountain of youth.

Don’t chance it! I figured my kids would just like my teams even though the Patriots sucked and we lived out west. I ended up with two that hate football, a Colts fan and a Raiders fan! Brainwash! I’m brainwashing my grandkids that’s for sure.

Get them educated on Patriots winning culture. I suggest having them watch "The Brady Six" and BB's "Do Your Job" (parts 1 & 2), all available on YouTube. Lots of valuable life lessons about success and perseverance there. Maybe even the new Edelman documentary, which really is a fun watch and well done.

If the person(s) you are trying to turn on to the New England Patriots likes to drink beer and belch a lot, show them Fitzy GFY videos. Case closed

It's not buttsex where you have to cajole someone into it, jeez..

Take them to a football party and it will either click or it won't. And if it doesn't get them out of your life, you don't need that type of toxicity.

BTW, I don't care how insane this sounds but I could not date someone who was a fan of another NFL team. Just can't do it.

Granted, a Jete fan would be a candidate for homicide, but a woman who knows football enough to be a fan of any team adds to her attractiveness, IMO. Aren't there any NFC teams you kind of like/kind of root for?

Yes, for now. But that can turn on a dime. I remember really, really loathing the Panthers in the early 2000s with the whole 'Tyrone Poole spit on me' nonsense but before our super bowl against them they would have been in my top 5 of teams to casually root for.
