NBA Draft - Trades - Free Agents

I love it!!!

Lakers get left at the altar and the EC got weaker.

Does anyone know what George's contract status was? Because couldn't the Thunder have told him to pound sand, and not trade him? Obviously you take that crazy (And that is just a crazy overpay by the Clippers) deal. But I'm just curious.

Personally, I haven't been able to watch a full NBA in many years. It's a joke that the players are running the league. At some point the league needs to put a stop to it. It's moments like these that make me proud to be a Football fan first.

He had four years left after resigning last year.
But OKC was pretty maxed out and it was obvious they weren’t going to become contenders without some miracle trade.

They didn’t have to move him. But they got an amazing haul for a player that they weren’t going to win with long term.

Plus it saves OKC a ton of money. Their ownership has been looking pretty budget conscience the last few years.

Yeah, it's hard to really get in the mind of super rich guys that own teams, but I would think it quite easy to pay the NBA luxury tax if you are the Warriors the past few years and know you are going to the Finals. Much harder if you are the OKC owner and know you're going to lose in the 1st round. I think they would have owed like $100m+ just in luxury tax if they didn't get under the cap. Of course there are other ways to make that money back, which is why teams pay it, but usually that involves winning I think.

I would like to see how the NFL worked with an NBA style cap system - the whole league got reconfigured in one offseason. It's unbelievable.

I think it’s a little weird that “Pride” is what you feel in response the to NFL continuing to devalue and take advantage of their players with non-guaranteed contracts while NBA players have (rightfully, I’d argue) demanded a larger piece of the financial pie that the league generates off their labor, and gotten it. Journeymen and role players are getting $15m contracts. The league can afford it. If the NFL players union had any balls they’d be doing the same thing.

Thanks Kawhi and the Clippers, you weakened the East and ruined the lofty plans of the Amish Taint Face...aka Bron Bron.

I don’t care who wins as long as the ATF loses.
Regards,
a Hater

Apparently Paul George approached the team respectfully to ask for THIS trade given the way things unfolded, Kawhi recruiting him etc, so I guess it was not a painful or stressful process. Things alligned and it was a win win decision.

PG is also a LA product so he goes back to play home like Kawhi.

Respectfully? He brought his agent with him.

I’d say this move puts the clips among the favorites in the west.

Now if OKC really wants to commit to blowing this up and starting over there’s another team in LA with cap space and a hole at PG.

To be fair, I do dislike some things about the NFL. I am not a fan of all the attention kneeling got. Nor am I impressed with the officials the past season or so. I just prefer a sport where there is a higher likelihood of an "upset". Where players feel more loyal (Compared to the NBA) to their teams and communities. I do accept the fact Basketball may be bigger globally. But Basketball will never surpass Football in America. And I like it that way.

The league can afford it in year 1.
After injuries pile up and teams have to replace damaged goods with more guaranteed contracts, how do you think owners will proceed?
Share more revenue?
Raise the cap?
Unlikely

Guaranteeing 75-80 player salaries each year vs 53 will have dramatic effects on how owners proceed going forward.
Likely outcome: minimize risk of future contracts by reducing compensation and / or contract length.
More guaranteed contracts from the same pool of money..... less for all.

Then there’s the issue of guaranteeing all NFL contracts in league whose players’ careers average less than 4 years.
Now go tell the stars in the league to stop getting paid and go on strike in order that 25 JAGs a year will get a bigger piece of their pie.

Meh.....I have more fun watching young guys grow
Agree to disagree. I prefer watching my team win. Especially since it’s hadn't done so since their beginnings decades ago... Awesome move, awesome season. In a twist, though, I will now be “watching kids grow”.

This can't be true. Why are all these top-dollar athletes going to...California?

They have INCOME TAX!!!!!!!!!
