NBA Draft - Trades - Free Agents

The Celtics are not going to win the NBA title in 2020. They'll be a 44-47 win team. 6th or 7th seed in the East. I'd love to see them knock off the Nets in the first round.

The guards and the wings will be fine. Walker is a grown-up and a nice fit with Smart.

That said, Ainge and Stevens should be looking at how they use their minutes to develop some of these younger guys. They should try to get Grant Williams lots of quality minutes. He's a true PF who needs to up his game for the NBA. At the 5, Kanter is not the answer and is a knucklehead. He can give you minutes but is not the future. Robert Williams should get an opportunity to prove himself, even if the going is rough early on. Fall is the wild card. If they can develop him physically, he might be a contributor in the Spring of 2020.

They will be the 2 or 3 seed.

You're a very optimistic Celtics fan. Right now, the 4-5 positions are dumpster fires.

Kanter was a steady contributor for the Blazers who went to the WCF......

He will be next year also ...
Eh. SUpposedly has a clean bill of health. The Cs must think so. At any rate he shot almost 39 percent from three last year injuries and all, if he can maintain that he'll be useful.

Unless/until Boston fixes that front line:

Philly - Much better than Boston
Milwaukee - Much better than Boston
Toronto (if Leonard stays) - Much better than Boston

That puts Boston in 4th, at best, before we get into the closer comparisons like Brooklyn and Indiana, and before we start wondering about things like "How much better does Butler make Miami?" and the like.

Free agent guard Brad Wanamaker is returning to the Boston Celtics on a one-year deal, agent Steve McCaskill tells ESPN. Wanamaker played six seasons in Europe before joining the Celtics last season as the oldest rookie (29) in the NBA.

Philly is not “much” better than Boston. Only player that is truly better is Embiid. Simmons is vastly overrated and Harris is a nice piece. Horford may fall apart at any time after needing ice bags almost every game this year. That and outside of Harris...who shoots?

If anything they are slightly better.

I like Whataburger ... like to see more of him - maybe we will this year.

Well, they don't have Rozier this season, so those minutes will have to go somewhere.

Try taking of the 9 inch thick Celtics goggles. With Horford in Philly, Boston has no player who's established that he can really guard a big 4 or a 5. And you seem to have forgotten about Richardson when it comes to shooters.

i think there's things missing in this analysis, as in: ball handlers and backcourt and bench? I think we are better than all 3 of those teams in all of those categories even if we are weaker in the frontcourt (assuming leonard leaves tor)

No. I just know that Philly is massively overhyped. I have huge hope for Williams to be the Embiid stopper and Horford does not scare me. Put the new Williams kid on Horford and watch him struggle. This isn’t goggles. Goggles would be they are the best. As of right now the Bucks are clear, and if KL leaves Toronto, they are on par with them.

Pre season I have no issue with the Celtics being ranked from 3rd to 5th/6th in the east.
Stevens has to reinvent this offense which should look more like 2018 than 2019.
Ainge obviously is planning on winning by outscoring this year - it's all they have.

As far as defending teams with good bigs - well that was an issue this year also.
Horford got by on defensive reputation this year though he had some decent games vs Embid.

No, you don't know that Philly is massively overhyped. You keep making those sorts of claims, yet you have nothing to back them up.

Knowing and hoping are 2 very different things.

Free agent James Ennis has agreed to a two-year, $4.1M deal to return to Philadelphia, with second-year player option, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Ennis turned down more salary from multiple teams to return to a championship contender.

Free agent center Willie Cauley-Stein has reached an agreement with the Golden State Warriors, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Celtics big men by country: Turkey (Kanter), Germany (Theis), France (Guerschon), France (Poirier), USA (Robert Williams).
