Rereading the Pittsburgh postgame thread from last year

I’m not going to lie after that game I thought we were one and done in the playoffs. I thought the roster was old and slow and Brady didn’t have the weapons. Shows what I know.

What were you expecting when you read it? The team was in a bit of a swoon and looked like total **** on the road, with that loss being the latest example of it.

Shocking that the king of trash talking Belichick's personnel choices isn't exactly keen on having their past words used against them.

It was hilarious though when Belichick, of all people, trash talked Pittsburgh after a win a few years ago.

"The safety play at that position was pretty inviting … We've played against a lot better safeties than him, I'll tell you that."

What constitutes as many? How many exactly? and how many members on this board at the time? Was it truly many? Or just a select few, the same few members of this forum.

Oh it was a lot, and I'm sure I'm was one of them.........but it's something that is completely understandable. All those 'downers' had every reason to be disappointed.

Here's what we were thinking after that loss...........

1.) It was our 5th loss of the season, the team's most since 2009 (a team we know wasn't that great).

2.) A 5th loss meant a bye week was less likley, meaning a the Pats would have to win on the road in the playoffs against elite competition when they were only 3-5 on the road in the regular season.

3.) 1 BLOWN COVERAGE TD, that's all the offense the team could muster. After all week of talking about avenging the Dolphins loss and going back to 'laser focus', the Pats could only muster a blown coverage TD.

4.) They scored 1 TD with Edelman, Gronk, and Gordon as available weapons, and then we find out Gordon is suspended.

5.) The loss gave them back to back December loss, the time of year they play their best ball.

So sure, you can look back and laugh at those who didn't think this was 'their year', but all signs were pointing to that. In fact, you were crazy if you thought otherwise. I'm rather optimistic about the Pats chances, but even I threw in the towel when I found out Gordon was out of the picture.

I remember saying "if I'm KC, I feel like I have the best team but I sure don't want to face the Patriots."

Quite honestly, after having dropped 2 in a row to go 9-5, I was thinking "hey this just isn't NE's year...." Even now I give KC credit for being the better team, but in the NFL, it only takes one loss for the "better team" to have their season end.

They could have won that game. It was frustrating since the Defense did it's job. Tough loss and Brady looked awful.

Downers? More like kneejerkers. You wanna kneejerk in the gameday thread and make a fool of yourself, fine by me. You kneejerkers just stay the **** out of the gameday chatroom.

Idk... I sincerely doubt Andy Reid holds that McVay offense to 3 pts.

He was pretty banged up at the time.

So how does someone have a postgame thread saved on their computer? Crayzee!

Anyway, BB knew something about his team last season. Even after that loss he said "I'm proud of our guys. They battled through to the end." That's Belichick-speak for: I like the team; I think I can get them coached to where they can win against anyone. And that's what, in the end, happened.

This is all hindsight. You need to go by what your seeing in order to make judgement calls. The team deserved to be ripped for the egg they laid in Jacksonville, Detroit, Tennessee, and Pittsburgh (Specifically the offense in the Pittsburgh game). They also deserved shame for that disaster in Miami.

Lastly, the Patriots caught a huge break when Philly beat Houston. That virtually ensured them a first round bye. Thus, they were the beneficiaries of what must've been a jet lagged Chargers team in Foxboro. I'm not saying the Patriots weren't the better team. Clearly they were. But flying from LA to Baltimore, back to LA, and then to Foxboro must've been brutal.

Sounds like maybe you need to stay out of the gameday chatroom. After all, I think a gameday chatroom is actually the EXACT place for people to express raw, instant (or 'kneejerk') reactions.

Whenever I want a good laugh, I go back and read posts from all those people who wanted to keep Garoppolo.

Hey, I still want Garoppolo...just not until Brady retires. I’ve noticed everyone is piling on JG and questioning his durability, which may be a legit question right now, but I still think JG is one of the best under-30 QBs in the NFL. The timing just wasn’t right, but IF healthy this guy will still be a darn good QB. I don’t think even in hindsight Pats fans were overrating his talent...just underestimating/overlooking what Brady had left.

They were so excited that the fans were talking about home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Then they lost to the Saints in the next game, and the season was basically done. It was a viscous turn of events in one week.

Do you remember when Steelers fans used to boast about having more rings than any other team in the NFL? Those days.

After the "Trade Brady" thread of yore, these dead threads/incorrect predictions pale in comparison.

I will always go with optimism with BB and TB12 on the team (I won't promise that after they leave, because I did not have that in my 20+ years of viewing before they showed up), but for the realist/pessimist crowd the Pats gave plenty of cause for concern in 2018.

I wouldn't call the concerns off base just because the season ended well. Unlike the advocates of dumping Brady in the aforementioned thread, a few titles ago, some of the criticism was deserved. The Pats were still searching for chemistry, and do not typically do that so late in the season as that is usually typified by the best football and win streaks.

I'm not letting you squeeze a second degree out of me.

Those days were terrible. I can’t wait for the banner presentation and opening night.

We have to be the only fan base that feel we have no chance to win it all going 11-5. Granted, watching 2018s losses it was a justifiable concern last year.

The idea of Belichick and Brady winning more than the Steeler’s history is something to look forward to. And then hope the NFL invites them back for the banner raising next year.

Prior to this year, they hadn't won the SB without at least a 12 win season since the first one, which I think we would all agree had the special circumstances to sort of make that 11 win season a bit loose with a 12 win requirement. So there was at least some reason for people to think that way.
