Patriots sitting at 89 players on the roster

With 4 weeks before TC starts, the Pats have 1 slot open on the roster.

Gordon is exempt currently.
Jacobs has an exemption as well.

Recent rumors have the Patriots inquiring about Josh Gordon's status. I wonder if that could be why they haven't filled the spot yet.

Waiting until TC seems like counter-productive in terms of getting someone acclimated to the playbook.

I'm not sure who Jacobs is. Do you mean Jakob Johnson? If so, his exemption does not kick in until we place him on the practice squad. Counting him, we're at 90.
