Reports/Speculation: Texans will pursue Caserio AGAIN after 2020 Draft/UPDATE - Rumor: He wants out

You guys attacking Volin's credibility are playing the wrong game. It was pretty clear he was doing the math not that he had a scoop.

You should be discussing the logic of what he's saying. It's a fair inference to draw - that the whole episode dragged out a lot longer than it would have if Caserio would have told the Pats he has no interest the moment the Texans expressed interest.
It only 'took more time', because the amateurs in the Texans front office can't help but run their mouths to the media. They're hardly the only franchise with this problem.

Rappaport runs with every rumor someone tells him, and Cal McNair (I'm assuming) ran to Rappaport with this one. Schefter said nothing until all the chicken little reporters' ass was showing.

I think you are full of sh.t. We know what happened and you want to spin it into hypotheticals. Argue with yourself as long as you want to.
Now now. No need to get so pissy. It’s not my fault you painted yourself into a corner.

I knew you wouldn’t man up and answer my question because we both know you would look foolish no matter how you answered it. Seriously, you’d look a lot less foolish if you simply said “gee at first I disagreed with you but now think you have a good point... Goodell would likely rule against NE here....”

Listening to a good offer elsewhere is a wise move by Nick considering he's up for a new Pats contract in 2020. It doesn't mean he wants to leave but that he's just fairly compensated.
Anybody who doesn't listen to job offers is doing their career, their overall life experience and happiness and their loved ones who depend on them financially a disservice.

Exactly, and this is why it's gross PFF even gave it the time of day, or that the Globe allowed it to run.

At least Wickersham had 'unnamed' sources. That means someone actually talked to him. Volin admitted he has NO sources for this. I mean, unless Google is a source.

You overestimate his ability as a blogger let alone a journalist

:p

If the the rumor is true, can we trade him? And what could we possibly get? I'd hate to have a guy half in when it comes time to grind this season.
The Patriots can vaive the "no-interview" clause and trade him at any point.

Nothing is stopping Caserio from interviewing except the Patriots and HOU (if the compensation demanded by the NEP is too rich which IMO is why they've backed off and decided to wait a year.)

Caserio wanted to further develop Etling. BB drafted Stidham. Read the tea leaves people. It's another wickersham rift. BB has gone and done it now. BB will probably trade Etling for a paltry third instead of two or three firsts just to drive his ego through Caserio's heart.

Felger told Volin to write the hit piece so that they could dive into it on the show without looking like he pulled the story out of his ass. That's my bet.

I like Josh, but do you really think a return to the pack would be likely if he left?
Well, we didn't win again until he returned (we had Charlie Weiss in the first half of the dynasty), so I worry about it, yes, particularly as Brady gets older. I guess for me "return to the pack" in that scenario means, "maybe wins the AFCE but goes no where in the playoffs." Spoiled, I know, as someone recently called me in another thread.

Not to mention because Rhebein died Josh is kinda the first consistent offensive personal coach Brady has developed under

We all know the Patriots' incredibly long run of dominance eventually will end, likely through the departures of BB and Brady. I just hope BB leaves a solid organizational infrastructure in place that includes people like Caserio.

Despite the fact that Volin’s “report” has been used as the basis for additional articles on many websites (including PFT), Volin has admitted on Twitter that he has no sources and is simply “using common sense” for his report.

Here's the problem: Volin has as much "common sense" as he does real sources for this story.

When Volin breaks a negative Patriots story, I always go back to when Darius Fleming helped a woman involved in a car wreck. Volin reached out to a local police department, was told they had no record of the incident and reported that, putting Fleming's story in doubt. It's a positive step forward that Volin sought confirmation for a story. It's a large negative backward when he only checked with one of the multiple local police departments involved and stopped there. If Volin had contacted more than one town's police department, he would have found that Fleming's story was true. That would have taken a couple of more phone calls, though, and got in the way of running with his "Patriots player makes up story" angle. There are plenty of other examples out there, like not realizing that more than one person has the last name Kraft. The key is, Volin has as much credibility as the posters who panic in the first 5 minutes of a gameday thread.

All I know is that I've stopped eating Kraft Macaroni and cheese since deflategate.

rumors are awesome when there is no football being played........sooner or later, these coaches and front office guys will learn that houston is one of those places former pats coaches go to die

@fnordcircle makes a good point about inference and not just attacking Volin, but it looks like the real story here is the rift in the journalistic fraternity, not the supposed rift in the Patriots.

Relatively speaking Volin seems to have finally gone a step too far and is being called out left and right for his horse **** "opinion" today. Again, relatively speaking.

But of course it is not like that bozo would care.

Caserio might end up there...assuming they keep Bill O'Brien around in 2020. All bets could be off if he makes the playoffs like last year and coughs up another furball in the wild card game at home to a team like the Dolts.

I refuse to believe anything Volin prints. The man believes that there was a ball deflation conspiracy.......

Nuff' said....the Globe's sports section has been **** since Reiss bolted to ESPN years ago.....
