I don’t see any reason to not keep all of them. Age, youth and potential injury (plus the ability of some corners to fill in at safety) are all reasons to keep as much depth as feasible.
How many is "all"?

If your are keeping Chung, Harmon and DMC, are you keeping 7 CBs/DBs?

That just might be what happens

6 corners is enough (including Jones), along with our 3 safeties.

The open question is how many STer's we keep. We have Obi, Ebner, Brooks, and Crossen. I expect that we will keep them all until the end.

I would expect
Gilmore
Jackson
McCourty
McCourty
Chung
Harmon
Jones
Joejuan
Dawson
Plus backup safety/special teamsters like brooks and ebner

IMO, the only issue is among the 2 STO spots. As do you, I would expect Brooks and Ebner to make the squad, giving us 11 DB's. This scenario would have us waving Obi and Crossen.

The most likely player in the defensive backfield to be traded, if anybody, is Harmon. He has a 4.7 million cap hit and doesn't play special teams.

JJ has a 3.1 hit, plays special teams, and the Pats would receive a comp pick if he leaves anyway.

I think it's unlikely but not out of the realm of possibility.

You'd like to think we want to keep our only good safety under 30...
Agree. I like Harmon I don't want to see him go. The dude makes plays. Period.

He plays CF perfectly for this team. Single high, split coverage, blitzing, etc. Doesn't matter. He allows DMC and the CBs to play sticky coverage. He is one of the reasons the NEP were so good at defending the deep ball.

However....

If they think Jason Mc, DMC or JJ can rotate in and occasionally play Harmon's position, that allows them to keep Crossen (if he made the 2nd year jump and think he has more room to grow) or see the D playing even more man coverage and use the aforementioned at FS then that would be the scenario in which Harmon is traded. Plus they would save ~$7m over the next 2 years but being exposed defensively would be dumb.

As of right now I do not support trading him. Too many questions and hes very good at his job

We don’t have anyone to fill Harmon’s role.
If they younger guys develop the guy at risk is jmac. But that would leave Gilmore and youngsters so jmac is likely to stick. In a perfect world thigh jmac can’t get on the field because that means the youngsters are doing well.

7 mill over 2 years is peanuts for the role Harmon plays. Sure we can mix and match end and only use 2 safeties if we had to but that’s not preferred. And who would be the starting safety if Chung or dmac got hurt?

I think JMac will be around regardless since he’s owed $5 mill.

Which is why they keep Harmon

I said Harmon was more likely than JJ to be traded. Never said I thought either will be.

And the cap hit is $10 for Harmon the next two years. The money outgoing means nothing.

Bill can hit on undrafted corners. No need to draft them anymore.
Precisely why trading-away top-120 draft picks just to move up to take the little Duke (but Not of Dorchester) and SloJuan Willies made Zero...Damn...Sense.
