OT: Colts Make Ex-Pat Kenny Moore highest paid slot CB in NFL

It's not concerning that Dawson could not get on the field with the unexpected emergence of JC Jackson. Why would they have messed with a Super Bowl level defensive backfield to squeeze in a rookie who had missed everything?

The "without hesitation" might be strong, but in context, do you think BB would prefer Dawson at 2nd round prices or $10 million Moore on his roster this season?

$10 mil for Moore might be a lot, but the question depends more on Dawson. Can he play?

He could have seen some playing time last year if he had shown the coaching staff that he belongs on the field. Maybe it could have taken some injuries to other corners in order to help facilitate that, but he would have had some playing time if he earned it.

It's going to be a competitive training camp for all of the corners, especially with Joejuan Williams added to the mix. This is a talented crop, so theres no concern with the cornerback position overall. But it's wishful thinking to assume Dawson has starter potential when he hasn't shown anything to this point.

Bill can hit on undrafted corners. No need to draft them anymore.

Some things never change

Once placed on IR there was nothing Dawson could have done anything in practice to crack the defensive backfield last season. Dawson was depth in case of injury or bad play, none of which happened. In fact, everyone got better as the year progressed.

I never said Dawson has starter potential. It was a comment on if BB would want Moore for $10 as a slot corner over DD on a first contract for this season.

At their new contract? No.

Coleman had his chance here.

I think they might want a do-over for Moore

Sometimes being a 2nd pick limits what the coach can do. But if there were one coach that would break that trend I would think it would be BB. Cyrus was a bad pick. We let go some good cbs that year too. Moore and think Leblanc.

Some teams are more needy than the Patriots.
Players that won't crack the starting lineup for the Pats are starters for other teams.
Other teams start rookies out of necessity.
The Pats try to sneak them onto the practice squad.
The Pats are stacked at CB and RB.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them trade a CB after training camp.

Moore is good. Much better than Jonathan 'average' Jones.
I think Moore is a very good player but Jon Jones is no scrub. He plays corner, safety, and he’s a core special teamed.

I'm a big Jon Jones fan. He has the potential to be even better this year. I'll definitely be sad if/when he leaves after next season due to his upcoming contract. Just imagine how different the Eagles Super Bowl could have been if he wasn't out injured.

I love Jones as well but I wouldn’t be surprised is he ends up as a trade candidate in camp. Unless some of the younger corners really struggle or offer nothing on special teams it wouldn’t surprise me if they try and get something for him.

Agree. JJ is rock solid.

I think BB will wait until the last possible moment to decide anything in the CB/DB area. Competition, injuries, etc, all will factor into who stays/goes

I don't want us to trade away Jones. He is a fine special teamer, and can step in if there are injuries. Given that we would get a 2021 comp pick if Jones stays, there seems to be little reason to trade him away.

Keeping Jones is insurance against injuries. Also, Jones is insurance against Dawson and/or Williams needing another year to develop.

I don’t see any reason to not keep all of them. Age, youth and potential injury (plus the ability of some corners to fill in at safety) are all reasons to keep as much depth as feasible.

One could have said the same about Jaimie Collins or Chandler Jones before they were traded.

Huh? We are talking about depth players not guys who are asking for top of the position money.
You could also “have said the same thing” about hundreds of players who didn’t get traded.
Poor analogy.

We’re talking about getting something for a guy who likely will walk next year. Pretty simple.

What guy? Jones? It’s not worth it, we will end up getting just as much in a comp pick and we need the player.
Jones and Collins both had locker-room/behavior issues that pushed them out of town, and the dozens of other players who weren’t traded in their contract years didn’t either. Every year there are many players in the last year of their contract. Naming 2 who were traded doesnt exactly make a convincing argument.
