Reports/Speculation: Texans will pursue Caserio AGAIN after 2020 Draft/UPDATE - Rumor: He wants out

Houston has a tough schedule. They’ll need to do well within their division or they may be looking at a 5 or 6 win season. If Foles works out in Jax, they could be looking at last place. I’m not sure how BoB survives that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if BOB looked at his schedule, got nervous and created this plan to use Caserio as an insurance policy to prevent the owner from cleaning house mid season.

Also, if Caserio doesn’t sign an extension, look for the Pats to grant NFC teams permission to interview him after the 2019 season, but before the 2020 draft. It’s a safe bet that BB will do everything possible to keep Nick away from a conference rival.

Houston would be wise to find another GM, as opposed to blowing up multiple drafts to wait on someone who may never come.

And of those 2 parties, which one has the history of backing down and which one has the history of going to court time and time again until he finally gets his way?

And good luck finding a judge who would overrule the commissioner’s authority in this matter. If Caserio and the Texans appealed to Goodell (which I know is not going to happen but I am speaking hypothetically) and Goodell rules Caserio is free to go, the Patriots have a .000000001% chance of suing and actually winning in federal court.

They would literally have to find a judge who believed both (A) the commissioner doesn’t have the authority to rule on this issue and (B) the ruling Goodell made was the wrong one. So it would probably be less than .000000001% chance of NE winning in federal court.
You are overthinking this whole thing.

No one is challenging the validity of Nick's contract

My “if” statement doesn’t assume anything. That’s kind of what the word “if” means.

We know things are not going to go any further at this point. ***IF*** it did, I wouldn’t like the Patriots’ chances.

Just so you know, this isn’t philosophy class.

That's not how it worked with the Jets. They got the Pats first rounder:

"They acquired two first-rounders in the Keyshawn Johnson trade and another one from the New England Patriotsas compensation for Bill Belichick."
That wasn't a tampering case.

The league ruled that NYJ had the rights to Belichick. NE and NYJ then agreed to compensation that NYJ would accept in return for relinquishing BB's rights. The league didn't take picks from anyone. It was an agreement purely between the two clubs.

People, I understand the matter has been dropped. What I am doing is speaking hypothetically about what could have happened. I enjoy the speculation.

I’ve only used the word “hypothetically” about a thousand times in the past couple days, but I guess that wasn’t enough.

The problem with your posts is you are coming across as trying to win a debate of a hypothetical, highly unlikely situation.

If you are so hell-bent on winning it, I concede.

Not when you are claiming to be right at the same time,

Hypothetically you could have been right.

But I seriously doubt it.

Great foresight on the Texans part, hope Caserio doesn’t sign a new contract with NE over the next year. He’s been so disloyal

Or the Patriots could just sign him to a new deal, as they always over the past 18 years.

Once again Bob shows he is woefully naive and thinks everyone is playing nice while they put a knife in his back. Keep showing how you are above the fray, Bob. Dropping those tampering charges was a really good idea. Glad to see you learned your lesson after 2015 when it was revealed the 31 are a bunch of ruthless ****roaches.

Just sign him to a new deal.

I think Nicks contract is up in 2020. So I guess we will find out next year if he really wants to leave.

It might not be that he wants to leave as much as that he can go from being a mid level executive under Bill to being the most powerful man in the Texans football operations.

Good for him if it works out. Can't fault the guy for going after a promotion.

Cal McNair should be embarrassed by how this unfolded. If not, he should be. This was the first major action since he took over after the death of his father, and he came out of it with egg on his face thanks to Bill O’Brien and Jack Easterby and their clumsy attempt to fire Gaine and steal Caserio from the Patriots.

Maybe, the hold on the pursuit for a new GM is Thank Dad McNair’s way of telling O’Brien and Easterby that their jobs are on the line. If that’s the case, I’m rooting for the Texans to bring up the rear in the AFC South myself.

The question raised is whether or not the clause in Caserio’s contract is legit according to the governing bylaws of the NFL. That is not a hypothetical, that is merely the question at hand (and, IMHO, it is a very important question because while it the matter has been dropped in this particular instance, I do not consider quite as unlikely of a scenario as you seem to at some point in the future for some team with some exec)

My response is putting forth the hypothetical that if push came to shove - which we know isn’t going to happen since the parties have dropped the matter but I am speaking hypothetically here - then the aforementioned clause would likely be invalidated by the Commissioner (and the Patriots wouldn’t stand a rat’s chance in hell of getting that overturned in federal court).
