Frantzy Jourdain was the scout who found Malcolm and was let go in 2016. He then went to HOU and was let go there this year after being promoted. Now he is with the Broncos.
Gee, case of blind squirrel meet nut...

Shh we have a second round cornerback I hope kills this trend.

Dawson is looking like a reach of a pick I've moved on.
I've seen this episode before.
Dawson just had a very good mini camp and made plays all over the place. Premature.

why we get better production of of UDFA CBs than 2nd CBs is one mystery that I will never ever understand.
Interesting what this might say about the CB position in general in the NFL. Seems like maybe having success at this position (relative to others) is more about factors like attitude and demeanor, rather than eye popping measurables that lead to getting drafted high? CB is a damn tough job.

Don’t really know off hand of any sort of research that attempts to quantify success of late round/UDFA CBs vs. other positions across the league.

Another late round/UDFA CB find by the Pats, yet they insist on using up 2nd round picks at CB anyway (Cyrus Jones, Duke Dawson, Joejuan Williams).

One of the latter 2 better turn out to be worth it, or else I might toss my laptop out the window 3 years from now when looking at who was still on the board.

Patriots Training Camp Observations: Undrafted Cornerback Excels

" It was another strong showing for undrafted rookie cornerback Kenny Moore, who had an interception and four pass breakups. He was a standout during the spring, but this was his best practice so far in a Patriots uniform."

UDFA CB that shined at training camp but didn’t get much playing time in the preseason. They wanted to sneak him on the PS due to the depth at corner.

The NFL's 11 best slot defenders

He’s developed into one of the best slot CBs in the NFL & will probably be a more well known name next season. I find him interesting because he’s the very rare in house misevaluation of a player that goes on to be great elsewhere. Who else even fits?

Fortunately, it happened at a position of strength but keeping him as others have said would’ve saved more 2nd round picks. :D

Guess who is the 2nd highest paid slot corner in the league? Justin Coleman. Bingo.

From Wikipedia

Throughout the 2017 training camp, Moore competed for a roster spot as a backup cornerback against Cyrus Jones, Justin Coleman, D. J. Killings, and Dwayne Thomas.[21]On September 2, 2017, the New England Patriots waived Moore as part of their final roster cuts despite a strong performance in training camp and the preseason.[22][23][24]

Funny how both Coleman and Moore are now the highest paid slot CBs in the NFL and were here in 2017
And we probably wouldn’t want either of them then back.

At their new contract? No.

Coleman had his chance here.

I think they might want a do-over for Moore

No I think they are happy with what they have.

You folks who don’t remember him need to pay closer attention in the preseason. He was one of the biggest surprises during his rookie year TC with the Pats, as an UDFA from a small school, making plays in practices as well as games. Some projections had him making the 53 but BB foolishly tried to sneak him onto the PS. I mentioned him in another thread last week, in reference to OTA and training camp reports being accurate and useful for young players, and bemoaned the fact that he was cut instead of the former Stanford safety whose name will not be mentioned.

Captain Stone-Kiper, of course, denigrated him as a player (not a legit starter)....add Ballard to the list of front office hacks who don’t know talent. The guy is still only 23 and is certainly a good to very good starter already, although this contract was still surprising, in terms of timing and $$. I’m also not willing to go as far as to say that he is the top slot CB in NFL. He’s legit, though.

I was bummed when we let Coleman go because I really liked his production while he was here. Although it's not like we're lacking for CB talent so it's really not a big deal.

Moore, though, not gonna lie, I had totally forgotten he was ever a Patriot.

Crossen isn’t making the team.
Gilmore
Jackson
McCourty
Jones
Dawson
JoeJuan

Thats 6 corners.
Moore is a proven commodity over Dawson
