TE Michael Roberts

Looks like it's a conditional 7th rounder in 2020.
And Conditional 7th usually means the condition is making the team. So it's really a free look at him with a Patriots option to trade for him cheap.

Longshot to make the roster.

as long as we have TE's who are at least mediocre, I am comfortable with that as we are pretty loaded at the other skill positions

Longshot to make the roster.

Pats usually carry 3 TEs. With Seferian-Jenkins gone (I'm assuming he won't be back) and with Watson suspended the first 4 games I don't think it's a long shot for him to make the roster for the first 4 games and right now he has as much of a chance to be on it after Watson's suspension is up as Izzo, Beck or Anderson do.

We'll see. I'm no expecting much here. Despite what he did in college I have no hope he'll ever be able to catch the ball. If he could he would have shown that by now.

As far as blocking who knows. Maybe it will be note worthy and maybe not. While I appreciate a TEs ability to block unless you are amazing at it I don't care much. If you're gonna get a TE mostly for blocking I'd rather just throw another OL man out there and not play games about it. As far as I'm concerned having a TE eligible OT catching a pass can be more important.

Those Nate Solder catches worked so well because they were unexpected. No reason not to have a back up OT learn to catch a little than use him at TE unless you have a guy you REALLY like one way or the other.

I don't see them team carrying 3 TEs and I don't see them cutting Watson or LaCrosse (due to his contract situation). At best this is probably a 4 week rental. But honestly it's likely just another camp body.

Nat Solder was targeted one time in his career.

While it did go for a TD. It also happened in a game the Pats won 45-7. The Colts were probably too busy crying about the ideal gas law to stop him :D

Hold onto the dang ball!

He's a blocker, to play TE for the Pats blocking is 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the list of importance, then you have to catch any balls thrown at you. We've always had Dwayne Allen, Kyle Brady or another blocking TE as the #2, as an extension of the offensive line.

I'd give this kid (health provided) a leg up on all the other TE's not named Watson of making the team. Lacosse is an unknown as a blocker and receiver, Beck in an UDFA who's talented but more FB than TE, he could be Develin's replacement eventually. Stephen Anderson supposedly gained 10 pounds to improve his blocking, we'll see if that happened but again he's more in running as a fullback than TE. Izzo is probably the only competition Roberts faces as the blocking TE, and Roberts is a better athlete.

Classic Pats cheap no downside signing. I’m a big fan.

Lions fans say a 7th round pick for him is robbery for them, so tbh I'm not expecting him to make the camp but we will see. We need TEs bad and who knows maybe he will beat out Stephen Anderson.

With Roberts as the blocker and LaCosse as the receiver, our TE group is shaping up to be underwhelming yet functional nonetheless. Watson should add a more complete element after a month too.

You misspelled "hot garbage for at least the first four weeks of the season".

I don't think it'll be as bad as post-Gronk injury 2013, low as that bar is.

Didn't they say the same crap about Van Noy? WhoGAF what Lions fans think?

And this could actually go for the full receiving group over the full season if Harry isn't a hit. Doesn't inspire a ton of confidence.
