4 Monday Patriots Thoughts: Esiason Handled Brady Situation Poorly

Ian Logue

With the Patriots coming off of a productive week of practice and just a couple of sessions left before the countdown to training camp begins, here are some thoughts as we kick off this week.

Screw you, Norman.

I don’t get it? Why does it even matter to this guy what Brady does. Makes no sense really. I understand the pitcher guy aspect but it’s still a head scratcher.

New York sports fans have a major hair across their ass when it comes to anything Brady. Brady could save a busload of drowning children and New Yorkers would say he just did it to help his brand to sell snorkels.

@Ian,

Nice write up. One minor correction:

- The Pats finished 8-8 in '99. I know because Carroll took us from 11-5 to 10-6, 9-7, and then 8-8.

That's right - they started 6-2 that season and finished 2-6.

I think the media - and some fans - are grossly overstating the input Brady himself had on this whole thing. Some PR/lawyer type guys who work for Tom probably said "hey we're going to trademark some of your nicknames" and Tom was like "yeah sure ok whatev."

Then Esiason (and co.) make it sound like Tom himself was staring at a picture of Seaver and the nickname, twirled his mustache, and stated in a fit of rage "this cannot stand!! Now that Seaver is in a weakened condition it is my time to strike!!"

A lot of NYers need to get a grip over this whole thing.

If this nickname means so much to Seaver why didn't he trademark it? This has always seemed like a big nothing to me.

I hate trademarking. So I don't care if Boomer ripped into Tom without context. It also means nobody else can use the trademark if Brady's organization gets it trademarked. I hate trademarking!

You go Boomer! Rip into Tom Terrific!o_O

This Tom Terrific matter still isn't as bad as when Krafty tried to trademark "19-0" while they were still 18-0.

I can’t think of anything gayer than adult men getting upset over who gets to be called “Tom Terrific.”

I hate when people waste beans. The idiocy meter is off the charts with a whole lot of seemingly intelligent people.

I never cared for Esaison's commentary.

I recall back in 2003ish when reports emerged of Lawrence Taylor's crack and hooker habits, Esaison tearing into Taylor during the CBS pregame stating something along the lines of "This man doesn't belong in the hall of fame, he belongs in the hall of shame."

Deion Sanders immediately responded "what NFL were you playing in?"

Priceless.
