NBA Draft - Trades - Free Agents

Unlike the first couple years of this Warriors dynasty, this version had zero depth thanks in large part to the max salary conundrum that ambitious teams will inevitably face.
Stars and JAGs
The Cavs know what I’m talking about.
Same for the Rockets, the Thunder.
Boston has the quality depth to succeed but not the right stars.
Always happy to see underdogs succeed, except vs Boston teams

This “shell” BLASTED all the West (best?) teams on the way to the Finals. Sounds like you are minimizing the Raptors’ effort and skill.

Just hope Leonard has one more 35+ night left in him in T.O.

Didn’t mean to disrespect Toronto, that’s a very good team they have up north (Best team in their franchise history). The derozan for Kawhi deal was a straight heist for Toronto.

That being said there’s no question this is the most beat up the warriors have been in recent memory. Even without Durant in the west finals they drew a good matchup for them in Portland. When Durant went down they needed 1 win to knock out their biggest competition in Houston. Had the same injuries occurred and they drew the rockets in the west finals there’s a decent chance GSW isn’t even here right now. Then in the NBA finals you add Curry dealing with an illness, Klay dealing with a hammy, iguodala and Cousins not at 100% on top of Durant, they just don’t have the horses to compete with Toronto, who’s on a completely different level from a Portland.

The Spurs would be a good comparison for the Patriots. Warriors are more like the 80s 49ers or 90s Cowboys.

@slam

I get the sense that Toronto pulled off one of the greatest trades in NBA history. They are about to win a championship and I don't get the sense that Kawhi will leave them anytime soon.
It was a great trade! A bold risk that paid off, even if they lose the series and Leonard signs elsewhere it’s a great trade.

Leonard is so enigmatic we really don’t know his intentions. The only place I’m certain he won’t be playing next year is San Antonio.

Simply put, you’re not winning a Finals series with a bunch of spot up shooters that have to gas themselves just to get an open look. If you want to know why Golden State’s defense sucks so badly late in the game, all you need to do is watch how much they have to run just to get an open look throughout the game. That’s why Toronto looks like they’re playing on the fresher legs even though they’ve played more games.

You need a guy that can consistently dribble penetrate and take two guys with him while he does it (unless of course you luck into your Finals opponent losing two of its top three stars in the process). They need Durant. They’ve always needed Durant.

In one sense you are absolutely correct that they are nowhere near the Patriots dynastic level. But I root for them because what they've done in basketball is also incredibly hard to do, even if it hasn't been close to as long as the Patriots. They have a lot of players who could have much bigger roles on other teams (or at least, a lot of these guys could prior to recently when they've started to decline) but have bought into the collective good concept, which is hard to find in the diva NBA. People crap on them all the time, but I think what they've done is astonishing, to play as a team, without egos, when most NBA superstars are the most jealous, me-first, prima donas you'll find.

They've also revolutionized the way the game is played in many ways with their three-point loving, small ball emphasis (and Draymond Green's very unique role), which has been copied by so many teams now.

While your stat is true about their Finals record splits, you also skipped over that they won the 2014-15 championship without Durant and followed up with a 73-9 record and a game away from cementing the greatest team in the expansion era by resume. Curry played on a bum ankle throughout the playoffs; not trying to "make excuses," but this team was historically great even without him. This year's playoffs, they just swept the WCF without him as well.

I don't think it's fair to say they took a "shortcut" to titles because they signed KD. Durant joined the team and they had the cap space to sign him. Like the Patriots, they've played within the same salary cap as every other team. I don't know if they would have won the last two championships without Durant, but it's certainly not out of the question. They went 12-1 in the playoffs two years ago and then last year wiped the floor with the Cavs. With Durant, they are a super duper team; without Durant they are a super team. They clearly are not - at this moment - playing at their peak for multiple reasons. It's not realistic to expect any professional sports team to never go into a funk. As I posted a little while ago, their depth is a concern; the Raptors are also playing out of their minds.

I don't think anyone is comparing Kerr-Curry to Brady-Belichick. In the four major sports, there's the Patriots and everyone else. The Warriors have put together one heck of a run, and even if Durant leaves (I highly doubt Klay will), you'll probably have a team that, like the Patriots, will be in the mix year after year. To me, it's more about Thompson-Curry, the Splash Brothers, if you're looking for a duo who is carving out a place in NBA history.

As Pats fans we all know how difficult is to win a championship and the bar is set so high. If often comes down to which team is healthiest. But again, no sane person is comparing the Warriors to the Patriots. Maybe the 2014-present Warriors is a good comparison to the 2014-present Patriots in terms of success. The Patriots have dominated for almost twenty years. End of debate.

I hope the Warriors win, but if not, 3 titles and 5 Finals appearances in the 2010s, same as the Patriots. The Patriots should be team of the decade since they've been elite since the very beginning, have a wider gap between second place, haven't missed the playoffs, have 8 consecutive byes/ conference title games, etc.

Agreed. its hard to put any nba dynasty with an nfl one because it’s simply way harder in the nfl to build a dominant team. Pretty much any nba team with a top 20 player on the team, they are literally 1-2 signings /trades away from going from middle of the pack to a potential dynasty or super team - the heat and celtics did this each in a single offseason. If garnett didn’t get injured i think Boston wins multiple titles easily in that run.

The warriors , even though i root against them, i do admire because they are homegrown mostly other durant (i dont count cousins since he didn’t contribute anything to their overall success). And even with durant, its not their fault he took the easy route.

Kawhi is happy in Toronto. I think he will re-sign with the Raptors

Kawhi is going to become Dalton, cleaning up The Double Deuces of the NBA.

Regards,
Chris

He bought an 8-figure house near San Diego a couple of months ago.

The Lakers died with Jerry Buss. Best owner of all time. Had he still been alive today, players would be lining up to play for the Lakers. As a LA native, you know it’s bad for the Lakers when the Clippers are a better destination even with LeBron James! But the Clippers are still considered the “red headed step child” in LA. We really don’t care for them no matter how good they get.

I have a bad feeling the Lakers swings and misses again this offseason. Their organization is an embarrassment.

You can talk all you want about GS injuries.... but the reason why Toronto is up 3-1 is they have the best player in the game right now. And that’s what wins in that league.

Kawhi Leonard is such a breathe of fresh air man. Elite 2 way player that comes with not an ounce of diva like qualities. Plays for his team and plays to win. Hard not to like a guy like that.
Word I heard is he won't be back for the series, period. Based on his workouts.

Best owner of all time? Walter Brown says "hello", as does his trophy.

It kills me that the Celtics wasted their talent this season.

We were as deep as Toronto......

July 1 can't come soon enough for me....

I think he’s had a good year. I think he appreciates the way the franchise managed his usage and respected his health. In turn, Leonard has rewarded Toronto with exceptional play.

Having said that, I think he was always going to leave, despite a fine season. Just hope he seals the deal Monday night. Totally worth it. Even if (when) he leaves.

Yup. Difference: Irving couldn't hold Leonard's jockstrap.

I wish but no, he won’t. He’s got Clippers written all over him.
Why on Earth would he leave the potential NBA champions to join the Clippers?
