LOL how is Rivers still on this squad? Totally useless to date.

Meh, 90 man roster. It's not like the Patriots would keep a D-Lineman on the 53 who's never shown anything and is a gameday inactive every week... that's never happened before...

I agree with one exception - young CBs, at least in recent years. The early OTA and training camp reports have been pretty accurate. For example:

Jackson

J. Jones

Bulter

Kenny Moore II - still pissed that BB cut him in favor of Richards and wonder if he was surprised that Moore was claim as a 5'9" small school UDFA but he's became a very good pro (all 4 downs) and is still only 23 years-old.

LeBlanc - not a star by any means has been a useful backup.

When I hear reports of a a young CB making plays consistently in practice, I do take notice.

If Dawson plays as well as Moore this year then I imagine we'll be pleased.

Especially not one taken in the third round...

Lol Jake Bequette somehow survived 4 training camps in the nfl. My god was he awful

Stidham working as number 2 QB right now...

Big story folks. Keep an eye on him in preseason

People said that about Sony Michel, and look how he turned out and helped us in the playoffs...point is, never underestimate

Every player should be viewed seperately. You can't sit here and see to me with a straight face that it doesn't matter if it's Trevor Lawrence or ************, if he misses his rookie year he is toast.

The talent and position he plays matter. Rivers' playing style relied on the explosiveness off the edge and if he doesn't have the same juice anymore that's a problem.

Wynn is a different case, very different.

Ideally Dawson replaces Jones with a very strong TC as the nickel back. Of course I still wouldn't like to trade Jones because of depth but I think and hope we get an upgrade at that spot.

I can't remember the CB position ever being this competitive.

In Gilly, JMC, JC and JJ they already have 4 locks. If Dawson continues to break up passes Crossen will be cut/traded. I guess they might trade JJ....?

JJ would be a decent trade option given that he's a near lock to sign for 4th round comp pick money elsewhere. Can we get more than a 2021 4 for him?

Great question.

Seems like for a needy team looking for a pretty good slot DB/special teams standout it's a fair price IMO.

Why not ask for a 2020 pick?

Was he awful? I don't think I ever saw him play any football.

I really like the potential of our defense this year. The strength is definitely in the backfield, but if Collins is looking as good as everyone says, I think our linebackers are going to be much improved as well, especially with Bentley coming back. Also, on our d-line, I have some high hopes for Winovich. Been watching some tape on him at Michigan, and have been really impressed. Him and Berrios are going to be my two binkies this year, not because their both cute either. lol

High hopes for our defense this year though!!!!

Well, the baseline is what we could realistically expect from keeping him in 2019, letting him walk, and taking the comp pick. My rough calculations indicated that pick would be a 2021 4. Probably wouldn't make sense to trade him for less.

Says who ?

Most of the beat guys are calling him "solid for a rookie QB". Hell, even Reiss highlighted Hoyer "making plays" in a recent tweet.

Like can you put up sources when you claim things like that ? Or is that another one of those cases like your "I can prove my point with video evidence" that you keep dodging.

Probably because he's a good kid with promising athleticism. Last year was basically his rookie season. This is definitely his make or break year, but what would we really gain cutting him before training camp? I like his attitude and work ethic. He could surprise.

Should have made it more clear that this was a question of the rhetorical variety. I'm fully aware this is his make or break year. I'm expecting break. He was given every opportunity to earn a major role last year and couldn't. I'm not sure how he's supposed to do so this year when the competition is arguably better and more intense.

Although many posters have penciled in Wynn as the starting LT from day one, an Achilles tear is a very serious injury. I found an article about football players that suffer from an Achilles tear, and it said that about 28% of all players never return from the injury, and the mean time to recovery is about 340 days, which for him would be the end of July (I think he was injured August 16th).

Most football players returned to NFL after Achilles tendon repair

So: if he is already participating in pass protection drills that seems like a really, really good sign that he is already so far along in his recovery, and really excellent news. Of course, he is probably younger than most players that suffer this type of injury, so perhaps that bodes well for a quicker than usual recovery.

yes, age and position make the majority % of the calculation.
