2019 OTAs/Minicamp Thread

Trent Williams could be in play.

The Redskins might soon need to find a replacement for starting left tackle Trent Williams, and that's because he's apparently decided that he doesn't want to play for the team anymore.

Williams is currently skipping the team's mandatory minicamp and from the sound of it, he might not show up for any practices at all going forward due to the fact that he's unhappy with the organization. CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported on Wednesday that Williams is upset over the way the team handled a serious medical situation that he had this offseason.

Redskins' star left tackle demands to be traded or released, vows not to play for Washington in 2019

This storyline is one to watch. I figured they may rotate play calling duties at minicamp among the new coaches as a learning experience. We’ll see tomorrow but Mayo calling plays both days is notable.

Emerging as the de facto NFL DC for Bill Belichick in your first year of coaching at any level would be a heck of an achievement. Considering every previous playcaller here had decades of experience Mayo would need to be some sort of coaching prodigy to do that already.

I gotta believe thats where this is headed.

Legend is Mayo knew the entire defense including calls, packages, adjustments, line changes, secondary coverages, by the middle of his rookie year.

No question he is a smarty-pants.

BB knows the brain power he has in Mayo. Its the seasoning and experience Jerod does not have but he sure has a helluva mentor

With Thuney at LT, this wouldn’t seem crazy... I still have high hopes for Wynn and I hope he pans out. But would anyone here be blown away to see some LT Thuney with LG Karras ?

Thuney at LT in OTAs is nothing new and we shouldn't draw any conclusions (beyond that he's the emergency LT). I might even be receptive to the idea of letting Wynn be the swing tackle behind Williams this season because while I'm not worried about Wynn's ability to play LT, I am worried about who's going to play tackle if either Wynn or Cannon go down. Cajuste doesn't seem like a year 1 starter type of prospect, and the team doesn't seem to like Croston as much as I do.

While I agree with what you are saying here, I am still curious : would you be shocked if Thuney was starting at LT in the second weekend of September ? I do not think he will, but I wouldn’t be stunned. BB and Scar are always full of surprises.

I think it would take more than one injury, but I agree insofar as he is technically on the depth chart at tackle.

Do we know why Michel isn’t at camp?

Jello knees
Just a precautionary measure to save him from the wear and tear? Or is there something else like a re-aggravation or off season procedure/clean up?

I don't know if there was a procedure but he's not ready to go following the wear and tear from his rookie year. He's a tough kid I suspect he'll be ready to go for TC but just a guess. Hopefully he's tougher than those bum knees.

I know it's good to test N'Keal early by putting All-Pro CB Stephon Gilmore on him but man, shutting him down without a catch? That's so mean, but I love it. I think N'Keal will learn more by getting dominated early in practice, and help him develop as a WR in the long-run.

I would

It's pretty wild to think Mayo is going to seemingly play a key role on the defensive coaching staff after just joining up. He must be super impressive with his football IQ.

Patriots Minicamp Report 06.05.19: Maurice Harris, rookie punter flash, front 7 tweaks, 3 up/4 down | Boston Sports Journal

FOUR DOWN

QB Danny Etling: Not to pile on after Day 1, but he threw a couple of terrible passes that weren’t remotely close. He might be seeing the writing on the wall, because I spotted Etling running receiver routes and catching passes from a coach after practice. Maybe the 6-foot-2, 222-pounder sees a chance at Move TE? I mean, he did do this last preseason:
