I'm a little surprised all around. I'm surprised Brady tried to brand it. I'm surprised Boomer and the Mets are this ticked off. I will be surprised if Brady just doesn't let it go.

While personally I really don't care either way if it was as one example Ladainian Tomlinson trying to trademark LT, can you imagine the reaction on this board?

I'm dyin' of laughter at this parade of lameness!!!!!!:p:p:p

It's out there on social media now - - -their kids are gonna have a tough time showing their faces in school tomorrow. They may as well have tried to dance the Macarena!

....that being said, I do hope TB12 donates the trademark to the Seaver family.

When I hear the words Tom Terrific I think of Tom Seaver.

This trashing Brady story reminds me of the time my son's company hired some drillers who had worked at Fenway. They claimed that they buried ABCD's (Anti Babe Curse Devices) at 3 different locations under the Park. One as deep as 50 feet and another as shallow as 4 feet. They even made a map of the locations.

The devices were made up of a tin can, a Yankee insignia, an article about Babe and a few other things. They peed in the cans and buried them under the stadium while doing some work there. They did this before the 2004 season.

What's 0verkill is righteous Seaver fans coming out of the woodwork decades late. If "respect" factored into this silly matter Seaver wouldn't have stolen it from the REAL Tom Terrific. That is, assuming he did actively cop the title and it wasn't bestowed upon him by fans or the media. Regardless, if it was important to him or his "brand" he would have copyrighted it himself. He didn't and it's a fair game opportunity for Brady or anyone else.

I'd be surprised if Brady actually knew who Tom Seaver was. He was in grade school when he threw his last pitch.

I love all the outrage over the Mike Mussina of his era.

The outrage is indeed pretty silly,

but comparing Seaver to Mussina is far, far sillier

20 win seasons: 5-1, advantage Seaver
All star Games: 12-5, advantage Seaver
Cy Young Awards: 3-0, advantage Seaver
ERA titles: 3-0, advantage Seaver
Times led the league in SO per 9 innings: 6-0, advantage Seaver
Career shutouts: 61-23, advantage Seaver
Times in top 3 in hits per 9 innings: 8-1, advantage Seaver
wins: 311-270, advantage Seaver, on far weaker teams

Seaver would be on the Mt. Rushmore of National League pitchers
Mussina hung around

Seaver threw off a mountain in the National League, in the days of 4-man rotations. It's comparable.

Once again from the previous poster:

All star Games: 12-5, advantage Seaver
Cy Young Awards: 3-0, advantage Seaver
ERA titles: 3-0, advantage Seaver
Times led the league in SO per 9 innings: 6-0, advantage Seaver

Those are comps versus CONTEMPORARIES who had the SAME respective environments.

He dominated his environment far more than Mussina ever did his.

Seaver also got his WS Ring leading the greatest underdog team in modern baseball history.

After the Orioles, Mussina chose to go to work for IBM and STILL couldn't get a ring.

Take a moment and THINK about that: Mussina joined a Goliath that had won 4 in the previous 5 years and then couldn't win even one in his 8 subsequent years there.

The VERY year after he left, the Yankees won the World Series.

How much more do you need?

Putting them in the same class is laughably ignorant.

This is such a non-story and an overreaction by media and fans. Brady wanted to prevent people associating his likeness with Tom Terrific on merchandise, etc.

Brady explained the “Tom Terrific” trademark request. He didn’t like the nickname and didn’t want others to use it with his likeness so he was, in effect, squatting on it. Regrets that it got “spun around”. We will have the story and sound shortlu

If trademark squatting is what Brady intends to do, then the US law is not on his side. You have to have an intent to use the trademark in commerce. If the Seaver family doesn't like it, they should file for a Tom Terrific trademark soon and fight it out before the USPTO. In the US, trademark rights go to the first to use, not the first to file. Moreover, even if Brady doesn’t like people using Tom Terrific with his image, he would be preventing other bona fide users from using this trademark in ANY commercial aspect without a license. So if a random guy named Tom Fitzgerald came up with a product and wanted to call it "Tom Terrific," then he would be barred from doing so if Brady has the trademark. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of trademark squatters. We deal with these types in many countries where a foreign registrant is simply milking a U.S. business.

I am happy Tommy hates it too.

Good idea to trademark it and stop people from calling him "TT".

Maybe sell the trademark to the Seaver family.
