WAY TOO EARLY Predict the Patriot’s Recievers for 2019

Yup. I’m hoping that the QB in NE will help him be better than the results in Denver indicated.
I’m doubtful he will have much opportunity to do that.

Scored td’s in both the afcdg and afccg, it was puzzling to me how he got zero targets in the sb while a clearly overmatched hogan got 6.
Wait, were both of Tom’s postseason TDs thrown to Dorsett? I remember the TD pass at Kansas City right before the half, but I’m missing the memory from the Chargers game.

Both. I saw some of his games and on a team that lacked weapons his production was weak.
Not sure how you compare him to kelce.
Even if you count his last 5 games only he produced 13/113. His best game of his career is 44 receiving yards. It’s really a case of an opportunity proving he isn’t very good.
He didn’t have good production in college and as was brought out in this thread he is by absolutely no means a WR.

His best production came when Sanders was injured so I am not sure I agree with your first statement.

I compared him to Kelce because he reminds me of Kelce which is a poor blocking good receiving target TE. I did not see him drop a single catchable pass.

To me he is a very good fourth or fifth receiving option. We'll see how it plays out I guess.

Yup, i didn’t realize tom only threw 2 postseason tds till now but if so both were to dorsett

There wasn’t really production to speak of. 113 yards in 5 games is nothing to get excited about.
Not sure what you mean about my first statement. Im saying there was no one to throw to and he still produced little.

Strange that BB would give him [LaCost] a 2 year deal. What could he possibly see in the guy?

Excellent question, my answer to which is: I have absolutely no feckin idea whatsoever. LaCost is not one nanogram more than a less-than-useless, anti-productive pile of poo.
Horrible, horrible signing at the time that will look even worse in the future.

For the price they paid him it was fine. You need special teams players and 3rd TEs and he is competitive for that role. I prefer a guy with experience than a young guy who isn’t going to grow into any more any way.
If you think he is supposed to fill a bigger role than that then it’s probably a bad signing.
This is clay harbor, James o’shaunessy, hooman, etc all over again. Some make it some don’t. It’s part of building a 90 man roster to compete for 53 jobs.

I meant if you had someone specific or some group of candidates in mind.

Nope, I just think they will keep working it right into the season. And while I hope Inman plays well he’s JAG to this point in his career.

cap is tight so would likely have to be someone like Taywaan Taylor on a rookie deal.

such nonsense.

If the patriots wanted to add a free agent or two, they would work out an extension or perhaps even two.

For starters, I simply presume that Brady will extend and there is a$4M more available,

Available FAs aren't all that enticing. Via trade we would have better chances to improve the WR core and good receivers are either on expensive deals or on rookie contracts.

Sure, we would have no problem signing a receiver for 5 million per year but who? Don't see anyone out there on the FA market that improves our roster.

I understand what you're saying; however, doesn't it also seem that, as one of Bill's first free agent signings - and the first free agent signing at that particular position - LaCost is actually expected to fill a bigger-than-his-talent-warrants role in the offense, more so than what was expected from Harbor, O'Shaunessy & Hooman who all had Gronk/Bennett ahead of them anyway?

No. When he signed him means nothing. First last or in the middle, it’s irrelevant. There is nothing about this guy that says he is expected to fill a bigger role than other TE2/TE3 candidates. And btw other than murderers we’ve never gotten much receiving wise out of TE2 or 3.
Look at our TE production in the years without gronk. The TE position is being deemphasized in the passing game. We still need depth.

I believe the other poster thought that we were under sec=ver cap constraint, and wouldd have difficulty coming up with cap money for a free agent.

I agree with you, The issue is whether there is anyone available show would significantly improve the 53.

Barring injuries we should be going into December with Gordon, Edelman, and Harry starting at WR. That’ll be hard to stop for any defense than add in White coming out the back field and Sony running as well we should be lights out come playoff time

As it stands right now it is more likely Thomas will be a starter in December than Gordon. We don't know if he will be reinstated, how long the expected additional suspension would be and then -- of course -- if he gets through it all and can play how long he'd be available before something else happens.

Hell, I'd be curious what the betting markets are for who is more likely to be playing in Nov/Dec: Gronk or Gordon.
