A team trying to retain a good player isn't indicative of how they feel about another player.
The fact that Shaq Mason was in his contract year along with Thuney being up this year is more indicative of why they drafted Wynn, not because he was pegged as a starter at OT last year. They traded for Trent Brown and made him the day 1 starter in camp.

Yet forum talk surrounding Mason was what could the Patriots get back in return for a trade and then they did that silly five year contract extension thing and now, Scar has literally said after looking at the tape, Wynn is so good he needs to get him on the field.

False.

I'm sure there is a reasonable purpose for lying about this after the fact... I mean he already got paid, to what end?
He’s not objective where his client is concerned. It’s like a parent saying their kid doesn’t lie. Yeah, that’s nice but you’re full of ****.

Arm length is overrated... the footwork/Handwork is more important in my opinion.

Arguably the greatest recent LT was Joe Thomas whose a First Ballot HOF Guy. His arm length was significantly smaller than a majority of LT think his size was around 32 1/2..

If Scar says Wynn’s a LT he is that until he proves he isn’t..

Yep. Scar knows of what he speaks.

“You know, we like all the guys we’ve got. We’re going to give specifically Isaiah a chance to play left tackle. We’re going to give him a chance to play guard. We’re going to move Trent from the right side to the left side. From the left side to the right side. We’re going to see what it looks like, and that’s what training camp and preseason is for.” - Scarnecchia

I think Wynn could very well end up playing tackle, suggesting it's a lock now is silly.

Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia thinks Isaiah Wynn can play tackle

My only concern this year is the LT spot.

Scar identifies what he wants and then molds it like clay. His high draft picks are 10 year starters. His mid round draft picks in some cases perform better than some teams high round draft picks etc.

I know some people have a hard on for the way the Steelers draft wr’s that always seem to perform. I’ve talked to Steeler fans that feel the same way regarding Scar when it comes to oline personal. So cheer up.

I trust that coach as much as I trust Belichick to get this team where it needs to be.

Thomas was 33 5/8 which is more than adequate

I am not sure anyone suggests it being any lock at all. He still needs to earn that position.

The issue you are running into is arguing that Wynn was drafted with the interior in mind because he lacks the size to be a NFL tackle.

Even the outcome is the same that is a totally different take than suggesting that he might end up being a guard if it doesn't work out.

Oh okay, just there’s multiple results of him having 32 1/2

I wasn’t as concerned until Veldheer retired. Now there’s some worry, no doubt.

Why did Veldheer retire? I assume because he is done and his body can't handle it anymore. Therefore I don't consider it a loss.

Whatever the reason for his decision, the team depth took another hit at LT, and he probably would’ve been the starter if Wynn either remained injured or didn’t look good enough.

Yesterday, they had Joe Thuney playing LT.

I'd have to guess it's because he doesn't want to play football anymore.

At least one poster did, and wasn't it you who said Wynn was drafted because he was the best tackle in his draft class, omitting the two guys taken ahead of him including the one taken at #9 overall. I already said this:

"Do I think Wynn could play tackle in a pinch, absolutely, so could any of the offensive linemen on the field or bench, who is best for the job is what matters." - Me above

Mike McGlinchey and Kolton Miller were drafted ahead of Wynn, Pats had Miller in for a pre-draft meeting and likely would have grabbed him if not for Oakland. Everyone had Wynn pegged as a guard, not just me. He is and was one of the best offensive line prospects in his class, his better more natural fit is guard.

Cajuste may be healthy enough to compete at tackle, Croston has always been talented but had to get stronger, Thuney also played some tackle in college, Froholdt among all the rookies is probably most ready to step in and play at guard...

Wynn is coming off an achilles injury, there may be better options at tackle, he might be better served getting eased in and taking over at guard next year when Thuney walks. Veldheer retiring creates a little more uncertainty, health provided he was the starter.

Trent Brown got the opening day nod at left tackle last year in camp, it was never a given Wynn was going to start at tackle, then or now.

WOW!

It is "absurd" to believe that the patriots expect Wynn to play LT?

WOW!

.At the end of the day Wynn could end up starting at tackle, suggesting he is locked in there now is absurd when even the Patriots don't know that.
