WAY TOO EARLY Predict the Patriot’s Recievers for 2019

Eh, while he is inconsistent I like him as an option. Just not a top option. Great as a WR4.

When was he ever going to be a top option here?

He caught 32 balls off 42 targets last year for a 76.2 catch %
Nobody above him in yards on the Pats came within 5% of his catch percentage.

Amendola only had one season in his entire career with a catch % higher than that.

Last year Dorsett was the 20th most reliable receiver in the NFL who got over 40 targets

But he is "inconsistent?" If anything, he is consistent when thrown the ball. He is just not used much or trusted for some reason as he has been open at times when TB missed it.

I like Dorsett, he's improved stats wise from year 1 to year 2, hopefully another progression year this year as a #4 or #5 target.

Harry
Edelman
Thomas
Gordon
Dorsett
Berrios (Yes think he could be our next short white Wr lol, we'll see)

Ideally

Squirrel
Harry
Inman
Gordon
D. Thomas
Dorsett (if they carry 6)

Berrios/ Meyers- PS

That top 5/6 would easily be the best WR corp in the NFL. Health is the X-Factor.

If the issue is whether we should carry LeCosse as a 5th WR, I think that answer is a clear "no".

If we choose to carry a 5th WR because both DT and Gordon are unavailable, I'm OK with Harris or with whatever free agent Belichick brings in.

For me, there is never a need for 5 active WR's. If we have four healthy WR's, I see that backup as providing the 5th WR, the mergence substitute for the next week.

For those of us who think LaCosse is really the 5th WR it makes sense

IMO, in this scenario, Dorsett is a waste of a roster spot.

I would be very, very satisfied with this group of 5. And yes, they could have the best production in the NFL, because of Brady, the running game and the OL. I don't think that their talent level would make them "easily the best WR corps in the NFL"

Mostly agree, but I challenge you to name one (WR corp) better :D ...granted, they’re healthy.

Couldn’t disagree more. Counting on Gordon makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, he needs to be treated like a bonus roster spot, if available they can use him. Keeping him means going with an extra receiver. D. Thomas is a huge question mark, and Inman is JAG. Dorset has experience in this system, he’s reliable, and has Brady’s trust in critical situations. I would really like to see them make another move at WR if possible, but I don’t see Dorset going anywhere.

I mean Gordon is suspended and when he is eligible he will be on 53 man roster. I don't think it's a matter of counting on him or not, when he can play he will play.

And until he will, surely Dorsett will be on the roster and he will probably even when Gordon returns. He likely is ahead of Inman, so he either will be the number 3 or 4 option.

I know this is going to be an extremely unpopular opinion, but I don’t know if Josh Gordon is a lock to make this roster, especially if his availability is in question.

It seems as though most, if not all of the projections that I’ve seen either have him on the opening day 53, or have him on the reserve/suspended list, but there’s a chance that he’s played his last down in the NFL, too.

As much as I agree Goodell looks like he has treated Gordon than some of the others who have wrestled with the issues he has, remember when Brady was suspended for 4 games after the deflate BS?? Brady was not allowed to practice with the team. At the same time Gordon was also on suspension for the umpteenth time for his issues, but allowed to practice with the Browns??

Also cognizant of some sort of tipping point for Gordon and his relationship with the NFL.. I can see Gordon's demise or reinstatement going either way..

Here's mine:

The LOCKS: Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry, Josh Gordon (Suspended), and Matthew Slater (I don't care, he counts as a WR when we build the roster).

Are we sure Slater is a lock? Don't get me wrong, he's been a Patriots god over his career, but he'll be 34 by the second game of the season. Being a gunner on special teams is a young man's game.

He doesn't count against the 53 as long as he is suspended. Of course, if he is suspended for the full year I don't think anybody will take a chance on him in 2020 and he is done.

My guess is he probably will be but the dead cap isn't huge and if someone scoops Crossen unless we put him on the 53, who knows. Weirder things have happened under BB.

Even when Gordon is on the roster they will have to carry an extra receiver as the likelihood he will be there for the next game is always in doubt. I agree that Dorset is probably the #3 or #4 WR for them.

fair enough

So, for you, Le Cosse should be compared to WR's. Do you think that he is a better WR than ANY of Inman, Dorsett and Harris? I don't.

Me.

He's a TE in title only
