Ran into KVY today at Wegman's in Westwood. Told him I hope that he was here to stay. He said "Me too!" He seemed pretty sincere about staying.

As KVN has grown in importance as a player, he's also grown in authority as a person, it seems. I'd not be surprised to see him as a team captain this season. This generation's Vrabes or Willie Mac?

There is no question he has found his voice with this team.

Is he captain-worthy? Seems that way to me.

Does anybody know anything about Collins being a captain in Cleveland? Was he respected as a leader?

Flowers said the same though.

Two things that work in KVN's favor- DE's are a lot easier to replace than a linebacker, and the market is relatively manageable, it's not out of control like the market for DE's because it's such a sexy position.

KVN has more or less become a swiss knife in our defense- not something easily replaceable, or mastered.

Maybe...If he wins another ring first.

Agreed, although we’ve seen situations where a player checks all of the boxes and is still not retained.

Flowers is the most recent example.

Paid does not mean overpaid. Flowers, QED.
Nobody thought Flowers would get the contract he received from Detroit. We frequently heard $15M per year floating around from the media which I and a few others thought that was too much. But $18M per year? They massively overpaid and no way was BB going to match that nonsense.

More like slow-as-peas Dean Pees was playing Chung wrong as a free safety instead of as an in-the-box strong safety. That plus the idiotic Dean Pees defense where we played corners 20 yards off the line of scrimmage for about 4 straight years....
Playing Chung at FS was very bizarre. That was probably why he was so bad in his first stint in NE.

Their CB’s played so far off because of how terrible they were. In addition, their pass rush was pathetic.

Yeah, I fully expected something around 14-15m a year. I think the fact that there were so many other free agents who received the franchise tag helped Flowers tremendously.

Boy I hope the team and his side find a financial middle ground. If someone else (*cough* Miami) jumps in with their bigger willingness to spend money and lack of income tax it will be hard.

I would keep Roberts (and only 4 DE's). The question is how much we need a 5th LB when we usually have 2 LB's on the field.

We have Van Noy, Hightower, Collins and Bentley. It would seem that either Bentley or Roberts would get almost no reps, and may not even be active.
While you are probably correct, why do you assume 2019 is last year ? or the year prior ? BB might go back to 4 LBs... trying to predict BB's moves is a risky game !

Chase V and J Collins. Add Bennett.

The Pats pass rush is going to be crazy good.

Crazy good seems like a stretch. I hope we are better than last year when we had the 2nd worst pass rush in football.

Improved from last regular season? I should hope so.

Good? Perhaps, if everybody's healthy & plays to their maximum potential.

Crazy good? Sorry, but you would need at least one crazy good Pass-Rusher to become that, and we don't have anybody fitting that description.

And then Flowers helped the tagged guys get paid in the $20M range. That’s just absurd for a non QB.

He picked #8.

Cut him.

I'd like to be wrong for Flowers sake, but I think he went from underrated to overrated. I doubt we'll regret passing on that contract. I think he's a 12-13 guy.

He's gonna be the same guy he always was and people are gonna be confused about why he isn't putting up double digit sacks. That's what happened with Olivier Vernon. Hopefully this saga ends similarly with us eventually reacquiring Flowers after his stock goes back down.

Not sure why he didn’t get a plausible # like the rest of the veterans.

Probably waiting for when there's more options after final cuts. 8 is what he wore in college so it's probably fun for him to wear it for the summer.

Gotcha. I’ve seen some players double up on numbers in years past.
