Jared Veldheer to retire

The biggest question is does he still get a SB 54 ring?

Meh, he probably should give it back, but this doesn't bother me that much. Players have so few points of actual leverage in the NFL, and many of them don't live great lives after the game. It sucks for the Pats, but I'm not going to begrudge a player for keeping every cent he can for retirement life until the team/league makes him do otherwise.
Agree but I have a problem with the ethics.

If the contract provides a clause for him to keep it, so be it. That's on the NEP

First Ellington now this? Time to rebuild...

Howe just tweeted re: the 750k, "It's up to him, but the player usually ends up keeping it.". Now, there's some ethical tradition...
If it was a receiver I'd be more resentful about it, but Tackles use their bodies very, very hard for not much money, even the best ones are usually somewhat underpaid, and men on the line (offensive and defensive) are the guys who take the most punishment and have the most health problems after retirement. Even running backs don't take as much abuse as offensive linemen. So personally I don't begrudge him at all. Especially if he honestly thought he could contribute when he signed.

You don't begrudge a man taking $750k from a team he's never played for, after only practicing for, maybe, a couple of days?

You're trolling with that, right?

It’s a requirement to sign at least one of these guys per year.

time to dig up another corpse

Under the CBA, the Pats will ask for the money paid to be returned. If he refuses they go to arbitration. I suspect he will return the money because I can guarantee a loss in arbitration. He has earned almost $40m over the course of his career and the NFL has pretty good retirement plan so it's not like he should need the cash.

Well that was fast.

I'm sorry but that disgusts me.

...and I don't care if BB told Wayne to keep the $400k, he still should have given it back.

Wayne actually made an attempt to absorb the offense. Veldheer has done nothing to deserve keeping the bonus.

He was a donkey, right? Why couldnt he rob them of the 750K, why the pats?

Maybe we should send Gronk to the Jesters to sign a $5M SB and then re-retire. Eat up their cap space just for spite and fun.

Perhaps I'm in the minority here, but we're talking about 3/4 of a million dollars. I think a lot of NFL players are relatively underpaid when compared with baseball and basketball guys and lack of guaranteed contracts come into play, too, along with short careers. But, that's a helluva lot of money from a team for whom you've done zippo. I think it's wrong.

And shame on Bill & Bob for not DEMANDING that scumbag Clot azz-hole give ALL OF IT back.

Still doesn't justify keeping it.

<<< BLOWS WHISTLE>>>

He could not keep up.

I see the corporate activists are out in full force.

750k..we agreed to it good payday for doing nothing. This guy didn't have what it takes to be a patriot not good enough
