Edelman contract extended

I kinda thought the previous extension would take him to the end of his career but perhaps he'll be one of those WRs who's still good in his mid 30s.

Honestly, he's already earned most of the money in this extension already.

Crazy Edelman is Second to Rice is Playoffs receiving yards and won't even sniff the NFL HOF.
Agree. HOF consideration is heavily weighted toward pro bowl selections which is not ideal for most Pats players.

And remember he missed Four Games last year due to the suspension. I think with Good Health he's capable of a 1200yds season. Edelman is like fine wine he gets better with age.

Happy for Edelman. A year ago there was reasonable concern if we had maybe seen the last of him given the severe injury and his age. Then he had one of the best stretches of his career in the backhalf of the season.

Good to know we take care of our guys. Jules has been underpaid for YEARS.....and extending him now makes him a bargain in the next two seasons...if he were an UFA...he could have seriously commanded up to 14-15M a season....with bozos like AB making 18M a season...

Extend Brandy and this has been as good an off-season as we've had in a while. (Other than Gronk retiring and losing Flowers)
Is Brandy the gal at the Orchids spa? Definitely extend her, brought us good luck in the AFCCG.

Good for JE11, well deserved raise.

I believe Edelman has surpassed Welker as the best Patriots slot receiver ever.

You think?? Edelman even Amendola would have caught that pass butter fingers dropped.:)

Kudos to Jules. Well-deserved.

The Receiver "helped" us win Zero titles during his time here...Edelman is now up there with Troy Brown, another player under-used earlier in his career, as Greatest Pats SR evah.

He has not, and he never will. As a slot WR, nobody is better than Welker.

Great news. He was the absolute hub of the offense last season -- workhorse and number one receiver for must-have-it downs. Lord knows how long he can keep it up. That Super Bowl MVP was well deserved.

(Gronk was amazing too, but, looking at the games again, it was absolutely evident that they were managing him and only using him for big plays when they really needed it.)

Good point.

Love Gronk, no doubt, but the most crucial non-Brady player on the O the past half-decade has proven to be Edelman.

They've won 3 SB's in the past 5 years when he is healthy.

The two they have come up short? 2015 when he was hobbled on a stapled together broken foot and 2017 when he was out with the ACL.

They won in 2016 without Gronk.

Other than #12, Edelman is the most crucial part.

from an individual skill standpoint Welker was on a different level.

As a football player for the New England Patriots, it is not even close.

But nice lawyerly tactic to narrow it to "slot receiver".

Slot receiver - - arguable.

Edelman has clearly been the better overall receiver, PR, RB, ST and CB (not to mention the 100% QB TD completion rate). He has 3 rings. He caught the winning TD in SB 49, the miracle catch in SB 51, and was the MVP of SB 53.

I don't recall much of what Welker did in his two SB losses (except for one play)

Edelman is one of the 10 greatest Patriots of all time. Welker, though a GREAT player, doesn't make top-20.
