I know we don’t need this kind of negative energy on the board, but this does make some sense...

Colts front seven would actually be looking pretty strong with him, Justin Houston, Jabaal Sheard, Denico Autry, Darius Leonard and so on...

There's already good players who won't make the roster and young guys who won't get developed here.

People make those claims every year. Every year, we find out that players who were thought to be good, aren't. Every year, we find out that there are young guys who aren't good enough to be developed "here" and young guys who aren't good enough to be developed anywhere.

While Miguel lays out a great hypothetical plan of attack the same way that he does for many potential free agents, I would be surprised if he thought that this was a good deal for Bill Belichick and the NEP.

More speculation (or smoke).

not sure how much difference this makes but it seems the Tampa writer has changed the quote of interest by the Pats a few times

1) the original quote is in this tweet above

2) the second change is in this link: Pats 'may have an interest' in Gerald McCoy
But McCoy has already made well over $100-million. At this point in his career, he figured if he’s going to sacrifice salary, it will be to win a championship with a perennial playoff contender like the New England Patriots, who may have an interest in signing the six-time Pro Bowler and reuniting him with former Bucs defensive end Michael Bennett.

Key change here is last sentence that changed from "New England Patriots, who showed interest in signing the six-time Pro Bowler"

3) and now the third change is in this link: Bucs release defensive tackle Gerald McCoy
There will be plenty of teams wanting to sign him. The Patriots, Saints, Browns and Chargers, to name a few. He’s made well more than $100 million. It won’t mean a thing if he ain’t got that ring.

Key change here is the last sentence saying "New England Patriots, who may have an interest in signing the six-time Pro Bowler" is removed completely and now says the what is underlined above.

If there’s anything Howie Roseman has taught me, it’s that cap space can magically be pulled out of your ass. No matter how dire the circumstances may look.
That is a valid point.

Not a FA, but..

Anybody familiar with this dude?

2017 NFL Draft Profile: Josh Jones

I thought he could be a player in the Chung role. He played a lot of slot corner in college, but also had snaps at linebacker and safety. Elite size and testing for the position, but for some reason he hasn't been able to put it all together. Normally I'd be excited about the possibility of a reclamation project, but we have so many DBs right now that I have no idea how to bring in another one. Next season, sign me up. This year, where does he fit? I'm honestly not sure.

I wish we had cap room. :(

I mentioned earlier in the year that the Pats could do things other than extend Brady to create Cap Space. One of which was adjusting Gilmore's contract, which they did. Besides Gilmore's contract, I mentioned a D. Mac extension and adjusting Marcus Cannon's contract.

Sounds kinda like another Obi.

Would be great but it is pretty deep now.
Shelton & Butler, the ostensible 2nd string behind Pennel & Guy respectively, are adequate - possibly moreso but still replacement-level - backups. The others - Parry, Cowart & Kamala - are competing for spots on the PS, and we could - and have - done worse there too; but Guy - Pennel - McCoy would be one heckuva tri-rotation. Similar to others, I also don't believe that he's coming here either, unfortunately. One of those "contenders" with cap room - such as the Irsays - will out-bid us even if we hadn't signed Shelton.

Yup, good comparison.

Incidentally, they're both on my list of draft evaluation misses (so far in their careers), because I'm a complete sucker for athletic moneybackers who can move all around the formation. I had both of them as top 25 - 50 sort of players who could provide snaps all across the defense and develop into Chung 2.0 over time. I guess I have a known weakness with that projection, although I got it right with Chung in the end (I loved his tape at Oregon). He took a while to develop, so maybe there's hope for Obi and Jones.

"...Indy places huge emphasis on culture..."

Since when?

I had hoped that Yates was smarter - or had more integrity - than that.
