OT: Chris Long retires

I'm left wondering how much BB actually wanted him back in his assigned role and what difference that might have made, especially in the Super Bowl vs. Philly.

Those who chide Long as a social justice warrior are being unfair to him. He has selflessly given his time and resources to support humanitarian causes.
I disagree with him politically on a lot of stuff but one thing I’ll give him is that he did put his money where his mouth is. Have to respect that.

That makes Bradys career impressive but probably not more than guys like Watson or Gonzalez or Harrison since those guys take a beating.

Building wells so 200,000 people can have clean water in Africa or donating 3/4 of your salary for education in your home town isn't SJW stuff, it's humanitarian stuff and I look forward to him doing more of it....
No different than JJ Watt raising tens of millions for hurricane relief in Houston....

Darn right. He is a good man. Judge a man by his actions. People who kill and beat women and children are scum (and Ravens and Chiefs!). People like Chris Long are good people. Give them the respect they deserve.

Several good posts. He was a doer and not just a mouthpiece or a hypocrite.

Good for him, really good player, even better person. Glad he spent a year in NE and got his first ring.

And got back to back rings after he went to the Eagles Long had a nice career.

Best wishes for a happy & healthy retirement! I enjoyed his season here and hated to see him leave, especially...

Seriously. Is it possible to do anything positive for mankind without being labeled as a SJW by some? He is a great guy, not some whiny hypocrite.

He’s well spoken and intelligent. Of course one political side doesn’t usually compute those terms.

I love Chris Long, both as a former Wahoo and Patriot.

Average life for an NFL player who actually makes a 53 man roster in their rookie year is 6 years; 3.3 years on average for those that make a 90-man training camp roster.

I look forward to hearing less about his SJW causes
I get the impression Long and I are at opposite ends of the political spectrum. But I always respected that he was willing to put his money where his mouth was, rather than just paying lip service to a cause like so many others appeared to do.

Edit: I see Kontradiction and a half dozen others already said this.

I just can’t get the Hamilton soundtrack out of my head, so here goes the summary of this thread in Hamilton translation.

The people are asking to hear my voice
The forum is facing a difficult choice

And if you are asking who I’d promote
Chris Long has my vote!

I’ve never agreed with Chris Long once
We’ve fought on like seventy-five different fronts

But when all is said and all is done
Chris Long has beliefs; these haters have none

Never meet a mic the didn't like

I look forward to hearing less about his SJW causes

I didn’t mind him speaking up, even though he had no reason for it, on this one:

A Player's Take on Deflategate | By Chris Long

At a time when it was vastly unpopular, and even Patriots fans weren’t aware of many of the league frame job, Long pretty much eviscerates Deflategate. This was on 1/27/15, when the entire nation had their pitchforks out. He called out the sensationalist media and their stupid 24/7 scandal-loving leech nature, already had researched weather effecting footballs, that the refs handle the balls and would have known, pointed out Aaron Rodgers admitting he overinflates balls and a bunch of former QBs admitting to it, and a host of other greatest hits points in defense of Brady and Belichick. And this was even before anyone realized the entire thing was fake. He concludes that this is a non-story driven by jealousy and agendas.

Read this article. It’s written so intelligently and so well-reasoned. He should get a Pulitzer, or at least settle for some damn respect from every Pats fan on the planet. Every other player, coach, and “anonymous” source was going nuclear on the Patriots in this moment, and Chris Long was the “controversial” voice of reason.

Thanks, Chris. Great human. Unlike most football crowd his meaningful life is just beginning..
