I mean, he's been the de-facto GM since they dumped Tannenbaum. I'm honestly surprised he's not already on the payroll.

It is a good fit for him from an organizational standpoint. Finger pointing, blaming others for losing, having propaganda writers on the payroll. Just like everyone in the organization, he doesn’t know the feeling of earning a championship while playing like one in the biggest game.

The fact they're even talking about bringing him aboard indicates how utterly lost they are as an "organization." That, and the fact they took prior cues from Casserly. I just hope the whole thing doesn't disintegrate to where the Johnsons sell the team. For that to happen, Jete fans would have to stop buying tickets but like hypnotized zombies they keep lining up.

May the Johnsons live forever.

I'm telling you, he's on board already. TrustFundBabyJohnson IV has been calling Peyton Manning for advice every step of the way. I just thought Manning was embarrassed to have his name associated with the Jets, and that's why he wasn't on the payroll.

And if he says no, it's on to Broadway Joe Namath!

He has an over-inflated self image and might believe himself capable of doing a complex job he has zero experience at with a hopeless organization. I guess that very well might make him a moron.
Fivehead Manning and Crazy Eyes Gaze: What a front office!

Hmm, they might want Manning to take over from Sham Darnit too.

Peyton was a great regular season QB, but id always take Brady over him. Peyton is missing something Brady has. Brady doesn't crumble under pressure. Peyton repeatedly did come playoffs.
And repeatedly did the "Manning Face" and called out his team mates.

Great fit for da Jete!

I'd just like to say "thank you" to Tunescribe, Clonamery, PatsFaninVa, Bill Lee and the others who are making this thread such a delight. It's rare to see comic genius meeting perfect material.

I’ve said this before but I’d be shocked if the Jets weren’t used as a business school case study in bad management practices. So long as they have the structure of both the GM and Coach being co-equals reporting directly to the know nothing owner, they’ll win nothing. It is a breeding ground for suspicion and guarantees the best talent will stay away from both positions. No matter what you think of the Raiders and 49ers right now, their management teams are being given room to succeed or fail on their own merits.

...and the gossip in New York City is insidious...

I've SEEN it in person...I'm in England a few years back and I find this place with NFL football being aired. So, I hunker down with an ale and I'm watching the Ticket on a bunch of screens when these limeys start to chat me up. They were really into the games and teams and asked me a a lot of questions about the different teams. I explained in great length that we Yanks pick a team and follow it unto death...any team EXCEPT the Jete. I told them that EVERYBODY knows the Jets suck in America and stay away from the green slime.
A year later I get a run of emails from these same guys thanking me for my insights those couple of years earlier. A couple of the guys were NE fans,a few more fans of Seattle and the G Men. Each one of them told me they now see why I said stay away from the Jete...seems the entire NFL fanbases in England also knows...the Jets SUCK!

You were a good ambassador, Joe. I wonder what those guys now think about Jete owner Woody being the official U.S. ambassador to Britain.

According to Gang Greenasty, anybody who believes the report of Jets trading Le'veon are clueless since the report makes no sense.

have to ask BritPat but I assume "bloody wanker" would ring up most registers

Pretty staggering from Bro Johnson:
“It was only through diving deep into the organization, it was only through going through this particular offseason deeply that I understood how this organization was lacking in certain ways,” Johnson said. “This isn’t a decision I could have made at the end of the season. I could with Todd. I could not with Mike."
He's saying he knew by the end of the season that Blowes was a turd, but it took him a few more months to come to the conclusion that Macca was a turd too? Not to mention Macca's right hand man, Dinger?

Lee was the Jets’ first-round pick in 2016, selected No. 20 overall. He has had a mostly forgettable career, and the writing was on the wall for him over the past two months after the Jets signed C.J. Mosley to a five-year, $85 million deal in March. Maccagnan tried to trade Lee during last month’s draft but could not find a deal.

It took Gase a few hours to make the move.
The Jets took the undersized Lee out of Ohio State, hoping he could be a Swiss Army Knife in former coach Todd Bowles’ defense. But Lee struggled at inside linebacker as a rookie, not big enough to fight off blocks in the rushing game. He was not much better in coverage. He showed some progress in 2017 then started off 2018 with a huge game against the Lions — with two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

The success on opening night in Detroit faded, though, and Lee ended the season with a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Besides his on-field struggles, Lee had maturity issues and was not popular with his teammates. Bowles was Lee’s biggest supporter, and when he was fired after last season, Lee was in trouble.
The Jets use a 1st round pick on an undersized guy not big enough to fight off blocks in the running game and unable to cover. He's unpopular in the locker room and ends up getting hit with a drug ban.

Sounds like the perfect Jete!
