What if it's the Dreaded J-E-S-T-S?

Their GM Opening HAS to be attractive for a huge number of candidates. If they can turn THAT mess around....they can write their own ticket for the rest of their career.
The Jets are a dumpster fire full of flammable toxic waste. That's where promising careers go to never begin.

The fact his drafts were terrible?
Yeah something like that!

It felt like he always got so much credit but a lot of the moves didn’t work out well but BB would fix it via coaching.

Anyway, seems like a good guy.

There was a tell-all sort of article years back about the insane culture Pioli was trying to instill somewhere (I don't remember all the places he's been)

I wish I could find it.

He might want to retire at this point but, if he’s down for a reunion, I’d have him back. You can never have enough smart, veteran voices in there with BB that he respects.
I'm with you. The guy's in his mid-50's. He's been a football lifer for 30 years. He's seen the highs AND lows of the job. His kids are probably grown and out of the house. Maybe it's time to step away for a bit and smell the roses.

The skills he has aren't lost over time. A guy like him can always get a job if he needs or wants it. I don't seen him coming back here. That being said, that's not going to stop the media speculating.

I saw Scott at Mikes's Pastry in the North End in 2005ish and he was pushing his daughter in a stroller and was at most a 1 year old. That would make his daughter ~14/15 now.

Girls are expensive. I know, I have 3 teenage girls. With that said I assume hes done very well for himself so he can take his time and find the right gig.

Yeah but that’s not a reason to rest on your laurels. You should always be looking for ways to improve. I don’t see any negatives with bringing Pioli back in some capacity. Granted, that’s if he wants to come back. If I were him, I’d probably retire but some guys just love the grind.

Yep.
To BB it certainly seems anathema to think 'we are good as is'. IMHO to keep winning -- when winning has been so plentiful -- you always have to have the hunger to improve (even if striving just results in you maintaining the same level).

You may be really good but there is always room for improvement. Try for that improvement else watch others catch and pass you by (this isn't an endorsement to have Pioli back, it's BB's/the needed philosophy for the NFL, IMHO).

Grandpa might be able to help out if he is struggling

I remember back when we all thought he was such a great personnel guy, that he was the vital to finding tthe talent that won the early super bowls. I also remember that after he left for KC most posters thought that the drafting got better not worse, i'm not worried about him going to the rodents, whatever talent he has will be destroyed by associating with the jete. They have the reverse midas touch.

Oh yea.

My wife and I assume Dallas were both inside ordering stuff and I was waiting outside with my at the time 3 year old and 1 year old and they were being noisy. His kid was fussing as well. We kinda looked at each other with the dad eyes like, 'Yep...hands full.'

Scott Pioli has left the Falcons and where will he wind up?? Maybe with his long time friend and mentor BB??

Would be an interesting move, but what will happen to loyal soldier Nick Caserio?? After the Watson and Collins signing there seems to be value in bringing NFL hardened folks back into the loving arms of the Patriots.

Or it could be just another article that means nothing..

Or maybe it is just fodder for Sportstalk Radio, where Bertram, Felger et al can rant and rave about do we really want Pioli back???

Ex-Patriot Scott Pioli leaves Falcons to ‘pursue other opportunities’

The only thing happening with Caserio is that he’s taking Belichick’s position of franchise control when Belichick steps down. Pioli May get a personal related job but he is no threat to Caserio.

Pioli in a Mike Lombardi type role??.. No issues with what the BB-Caserio-Ossy have done, but another cog in the wheel.. suspect that as BB appears to be assuming the role of the D coordinator, that he will need some help in other areas..

You don't do this to Caserio. Caserio has guided us to 3 personnel years with a ring. Don't see Pioli joining here.

.

There are a lot of posters with an agenda that colors this.
Those that like to criticize Belichick give pioli way more credit than he deserved and those that want to deify Belichick give him too little.
The answer is probably somewhere in the middle.
The fact that some people look at the patriots through the eyes of giving greater credit for the dynasty to Brady or Belichick increases the rhetoric on both sides.

Why? Caserio isn’t the only guy in the front office. He needs coworkers and subordinates to carry out his job.

My replie was more about pioli going to the jete, but like i posted pioli was given a great amount of credit in building the early BB super bowl teams. When he did eventually leave and was replaced the general consensus was that the drafts got better, but that was 10-11 years ago.

Yeah I wasn’t really speaking to your comments just adding my impression about how people seem to feel about pioli and why.

Bill parceells and ty law returnong to ner england hey thaits great. One i put my contacts in i come bavk and finish mu thoights

All this loyalty to Caserio is totally warranted, but... he's interviewed for GM gigs going back some five years now. It's only a matter of time before he finds the situation that seduces him away. So, as a hedge, I don't think it's the worst idea in the world to stash Pioli on some front office version of the shadow roster.

That's what I'm talking about !
