Conan the barbarian is a sell sword who fights for money, do I care what his motivation is?

Or do I simply know that if I pay him well, he'll fight like a berserker and destroy my enemies.
Whatever. I'm fine with you taking stupid position and using stupid analogies to try to hide the fact that your position on the matter is stupid. Sorry, I won't be responding beyond this point. Good day and Go Pats!

I'll be honest I didn't like the pick originally I know this will be a surprise but I wanted Dez Bryant and was disgusted when I believe we traded the pick to Dallas they took Dez and we took Dev.

But he quickly won most of us over, he looked very Jagish as a DB I remember but is the golden standard for coverage safety in the NFL and erases long balls on the side of his field.
Who knew BB knew what he was doing. LOL.

Do you forget that he was a Pro Bowl CB his rookie season? :)

When talking about Collins' 2019 deal with the Pats... isn't he also getting $2,500,000 from the Browns?

Actually, the whole 2007 season was a success for Thomas, and he followed that up with a great first half (9 games) in 2008 where he was headed for double digit sack totals until he broke his arm and went on IR. Prior to the unfortunate injury, he was doing very well in NE.

When he came back in 2009, he scoffed at the idea of changing his responsibilities which I believe included the idea of playing a lot more strong side LB, grumbling and making noise about it in the media. His attitude soured quickly that year, and I believe that he was part of the “late to practice/sent home early” group when it snowed in December.

Since they were now 3 full years into the deal and could see a substantial cap savings, Belichick decided that it would be best to part ways. Ultimately, his time in NE should be seen as a failure, but I think some get a bit carried away at times. The only year I blame him for is 2009 due to his poor attitude, but the LB group as a whole wasn’t exactly stellar that season.

He was great in 2007; he was a complete beast in the "We're on to San Diego" game, with a big pick six. He has a bad rep because he was one of the main Bad Attitude Guys in 2009.

Sure he had some good games but based on being the highest paid LB in the NFL, he was a bust. He gave them 28 good games and the rest were IR and in Mr Spacely's office
We have to remember he was 30-31 years old when he signed that contract, which is surprising he got paid what he did due to players going into decline at that age. However, he didn’t show any signs of that during his first season. He was also one of the only bright spots of a horrible defense in ‘08 before breaking his arm. He unfortunately checked out mentally in ‘09.

Maybe someone can fill me on any dead money the Pats dished out on Thomas’ departure?

I mentioned this in my response as well. Teams throwing to their TE’s were a lost cause and Thomas set the tone for the D with that pick 6 he ran back with ease.

@long distance

You pretty much nailed the pay cut. I didn’t expect it to be quite as drastic. Then again, I never thought that we’d be talking about him coming back here.

The money is cheap enough, and the cut would be painless enough, for this to work for me. Collins must have had a tough time swallowing those numbers down, though.

Haven’t been able to find any specific numbers for what they were on the hook for, but I do know that the team saw a cap savings, since he was entering his 4th year of a 5 year deal.

At the time they signed their deals, several Patriots became the highest paid at their positions in ne way or the other.

Marcus Cannon's new deal proves that the Patriots DO pay their talent
Cannon... do you mean Shaq Mason?

I didn't say they don't pay, I said they don't overpay, and so did you initially.

Mason's contract makes him the 5th highest paid guard in the NFL in guaranteed money and 9th highest in total value of the contract with salary and incentives. Paid very well, near the top even, but not the highest.

Yes, my position is stupid, money is a poor motivator.

And suppose Collins becomes a wrecking ball at linebacker for us this season, his skill and athleticism miraculously returns, undoubtedly we'll hear how his time away from the Pats taught him a new appreciation for the game, or BB threatened him with some scary discipline if he didn't behave.

It wasn't the 30 million he could make on his next bloated contract that enticed him to play so well... it was empty platitudes about the Patriot Way.

The article titled Cannon.

Mason is 2nd in guaranteed $

The question is was AD a bad singing. The answer is yes. Big money. 28 good games. Too old. Hit the cliff. Cut and the team took a charge of $8.8m

I don't think Bill has a habit of consulting with his coaching staff and the players on personnel moves. Heck, I don't think he even talks with Brady about the draft.
Why do you think that? Any tangible evidence, comments by anyone, etc?
