I always love it when a player who left for money returns for Lombardis. I think they play harder and I think it influences those who are thinking money is more important than FAME.

One of the great mysteries of our time. Maybe he had his heart set on staying in NE but when the "low-balled" him it hurt so he disengaged? Maybe that jackass Bus Cook got in his head. Maybe his friends and family started to badmouth BB and the org? Who knows.

With that said, to your point they will shell out a ton of $ for a player and pay top of the market ONLY if it makes sense to them. Devin in FA. Gilmore. Shaq. Tom. Cannon. High. VW, Mayo. Mankins.

You can argue his deal was "at market" for a top performing OLB who could play multiple roles but yes, it wasn't the greatest of decisions.

"Otherwise Spectacular", you know, except for the two touchdowns he gave up to one of the slowest TEs in the league on simple seam routes.

Jamie Collins is the reason they lost that game. Not Stephen Gostkowski. Not anyone else.

Are you just trying to goad us or are you just obtuse.

I'm one who thinks that Jaime's "lack of gap discipline was less an issue than the fact that he was going to be paid a BOATLOAD of money the following year and the Pats were never going to able to match it. So rather than getting a pick around 100 a year from then, he grabbed a more immediate pick that was more likely to be closer to 63. And in the process let everyone know that pretty much EVERYONE is expendable when the aren't doing their JOBS they way they are coached.

In an ideal world where the players play for free, Bill would have continued to work with Collins to get him to be where he wanted to be. But in the real world where Jaime Collins time with the Pats would have ended REGARDLESS in 2 months the Pats chose to get a little value, improved gap discipline, and send a teaching message besides.

If reports are true and Bill tried to get him back at the trade deadline last season, then it's clear BB felt whatever problems they had with him in the past weren't THAT big a deal.

BTW- one of my pet peeves about fans and the media is their propensity to take snapshots of player performances and use them FOREVER as exemplars of who they are. Here's the thing - Good players are CONSTANTLY changing and improving their games. Those who don't are the ones who have 3 year careers. So people who want to harp on a play Collins made in a game in FREAKIN' 2015 are idiots, because that player doesn't exist anymore.

Oh ffs, after those two muffs, the Pats were down 14-6 with less than two minutes gone in the 2nd Quarter.

The first one was after a crappy pass interference call that brought Denver deep into New England territory - and the touchdown was against Cover 2.

New England came back and scored and Gost missed the extra point.

Brady threw a TERRIBLE pick early in the second quarter, giving the Broncos 1st and 10 on the Pats 17. Then, yeah, Collins bit hard on Manning and lost Daniels - his "error" wasn't any worse than Brady's.

Then Brady threw another pick.

Pats trying to come back - stupid 4th and 1 deep in Broncos territory. Denver gets the ball back, 3rd and long...Manning completes...Collins finishes the tackle. Patriots get the ball back.

Deep in Broncos territory, Amendola DROPS a 3rd and 6 (could have been called a fumble). Fourth down incomplete, when Talib interferes with Gronk in the endzone (no call). Denver gets the ball back.

Pats score after a Denver punt and miss the 2-point conversion.

But yeah, sure, Collins cost them the game. Not the missed extra point that made them go for two at the end. Not the two bad picks in the first half. Not the relentless pressure because Stork was tipping the snap and Miller and Wolf were killing Brady on every pass attempt.

Come on. This is just silly.

I don’t get the opposition to this move. They had an opportunity to improve the team and took it. Low risk, good potential reward. And the revisionist history is pretty funny. The vast majority of this board wanted Collins to be re-signed, and screamed that Belichick got hosed in the trade , and had cost them any shot at the Super Bowl.

Interesting that there has been no news about the contract details yet. Usually we'd have heard something about them by now.
