Patriots getting the band back together, sign Jamie Collins

How else do you explain BB drafting my binkie Stidham.
Yea but despite your incessant demands he never signed that bum Chris Conley

Did not think there were chances in hell that the Pats could sign Ben Watson and Jamie Collins, but they somehow brought these guys back into the fold..

Will see if Jamie will fulfill his role as planned or freelance.. but after his banishment to Cleveland he probably realizes the value of a disciplined organization..

The current depth chart of the NEP is deeper quicker, younger in some aspects and mature in others. INOW they are locked and loaded for the 2019 season.. very enthused with the NEP offseason, better than expected.
Here's hoping...he didn't sound that upset when he was sent to Cleveland. Intrigued to see if it's a one year deal or if Collins sees a future here. I'm guessing one year and then he goes gets paid probably elsewhere.

That's a good thing. He needs to play well to get that contract. It's great for the Pats this year.

I think the poster's point that you are replying to, though, is THAT was the reason last time that he freelanced.

.

I like it

Jamie Collins was second on the entire Brown's team in defensive snaps, led the team in tackles (104 combined), tackles for a loss (13, more than Myles Garrett), had an interception on multiple passes defensed and was tied for 1st in linebacker sacks.

When he left here it was over money, sure he was disgruntled, freelancing... over money.

For those saying he wasn't very good here or in Cleveland you're completely wrong. Prior to his contract year he was our best defender. BB compared him to Lawrence Taylor which is something he has never done.

He wasn't traded over money. Bill stopped playing him, he was getting increasingly annoyed by Collins. If Collins was still playing awesome, he wouldn't have traded him mid season.

Collins lead all linebackers in defensive snaps in 2014, lead all linebackers in defensive snaps in 2015 and played 100% of the snaps in 2016, but Belichick didn't figure out that Collins was no good until a week before he was traded… and it wasn't about money?

Okay, sounds plausible…

I'd argue it was ultimately because he didn't put the team first like others have in their contract years.

Curran at some point said that Bill likes to see the mental thoughness of players in their final contract year as a test which also affects how far the team will go to keep them around. Some like HT or DMac put all of that FA noise to the side and continue with business as usual. And get rewarded.

Others like Collins or Butler can't handle it and try to go for hero plays just to increase their exposure. By doing that they open holes on the defense and ultimately screw the team. It is not 11 players and 1 fist anymore.

Yes, money is in their head but from BBs perspective this is about other things.

and played 100% of the snaps in 2016
Uh no. He went from playing 100% of the defensive snaps the first 4 games of the season to around 80% the next two to 60% in his last game for the Pats against Buffalo.

2016 Collins' per game snap counts.

We can call it anyway we want but for whatever the reason, they clearly reduced his workload.

The Browns made Collins the highest paid inside linebacker in the NFL. The Patriots allowed Hightower to hit the open market by not assigning the franchise tag to him and he took less money than the Jests were offering to not play for the Jests.

The Patriots were never going to pay Collins that money. The fact they waited until the night of the trading deadline means they negotiated the entire time, with Chandler Jones they didn't even bother because the gulf was so wide, he got 100 million dollars.

Collins played 100% of the snaps for the first four games of the season, next week a lesser role and then he was gone. It was always about the $.

Yes, and I already said he was disgruntled and freelancing... so we can either assume it was about money or instead that it took Bill 3.5 years to determine Collins wasn't very good.

No it was not. It was because he literally became a problem allowing huge defensive plays to happen doing whatever the hell he wanted to make big plays.

If he kept playing according to scheme he would have been gone at the end of the season or gotten a new contract. Unfortunately for him the Pats got KVN and Roberts was coming on as a run defender so Collins became not only replaceable but even detrimental to the team.

He was essentially removed from most of his responsibilities during the Buffalo game.
Exactly.

For whatever the reason, in certain situations they no longer felt he could perform in his role.

Malcolm Butler did the same thing, maybe its better not to hold onto a player into his contract year.

Pretend for a moment the Pats paid Collins before the year began, is he still freelancing? The Pats were never going to pay Collins that kind of money, because they almost never do.
