Patriots getting the band back together, sign Jamie Collins

I predicted Collins would be the {Pats 2nd round draft pick. I looked forward to his career as a Patriot. I was disappointed. He free lanced more and more as time went on and gave up big gains that should have been easy stops over and over. He was distant with the fanbase and made it obvious he didn't want to be here or listen to the coaches. I hope this is just a look-see. If he has the same attitude , **** him.

I'm a sucker for potential so I am hopeful. First and foremost, Belichick is a teacher - there's always that temptation for him to bring in talent and see if he can get the most out of it (not that he always can).

Collins is an athletic freak. Period.

Are we forgetting he could do things like this with that athleticism? In fact the NFL had to BAN this play because guys like Collins were too good at it, also for safety reasons.

Look Chung came back and was better the 2nd time around.

If Collins is willing to swallow his pride and 'do his job' he could end up an excellent pickup for the Pats.

Low risk/high upside signing. I like it.

According to Browns fans he suffered an injury in 2017 and wasn't the same since.

Well, he's back. I just hope it's as a situational player rather than a front line guy.

Given the current roster, that certainly looks likely.

Vs. the end of season, does that make the significant additions to the LB & DE corps Bennett, Winovich, Bentley and Collins, and the significant subtraction Flowers? I'll take it.

I may be wrong but I think the freelancing was to make splash plays to get a big contract. Through 2016 (the year he was traded) he had made around $4M. The last two years the Browns paid him, combined, $27M.

Jamie Collins

The bank account is different now; hopefully he'll just play not looking for the contract anymore.

Sweet !

Love the speed !

I remember how much this forum lost their minds when we traded him. Kinda funny.

If this means goodbye Elandon Roberts, then I’m all for it. Heck, I’ll be the happiest person on this board!!!

It was discussed in the other thread as it relates to how much of a hand Mayo had in this. No question BB knows what he has in Collins and I don't think BB needed more intel.

It would not surprise me to learn it was Mayo as ILB coach that got Jamie more interested in returning.

It was said this defense is the same, but a bit different than when Fat Matt ran it. Maybe the subtle changes appealed to Jamie? Who knows.

Sure but Jamie's issue wasn't positional misuse. He was looking to get paid and tried to be Superman every snap.

Now that he has $30m in the bank, he either will be headstrong and think his way is still best (if so, he'll be cut)and try to get his dollars up or decide to accept his role and be part of a champion.

Yeah, I am of the same mind. He probably felt the need to stand out and make money plays.
Selfish yeah, but to my mind it is understandable. He guessed right and made big bucks.

Yea I don't think there was common ground anywhere back then. Money, role, etc.

In the end it worked out for both parties even though both were not happy at the time. Jamie got paid the NEP made it to 3 straight SBs winning two of them.

Hopefully he can embrace the role they want him to have, make plays and have fun.

I was right with you from the beginning regarding Elandon...but he really improved last season. He was better at shooting the right gaps and also in coverage. I don't have a problem with him anymore...but I understand your frustration.

Different players. Roberts isn't going anywhere. Sorry.
