If Case Keenum can become a serviceable QB in his League... There is hope for Danny Etling. Yeah I once thought that nodle arm Tom Brady was a waste of a selection.

Look at how he turned out.

We don't know until they put on the pads. Really intrigued to see Danny Etling's improvements this time around.

You know that's one of great Brady mysteries.

Common wisdom tells us that you either have great arm strength or you don't. It's not supposed to get better with age. Yet in Brady's case it somehow DID! Even during his run to his first superbowl his "medocre arm strength" was a common topic. It would pop up over and over again for the next few years as well during his "game manager" years. But by the time 2007 came around Brady was being mention among the league's "rifle" arms. How did that happen.

I imagine it was a matter of improving mechanics. Getting stronger in the legs and learning how to incorporate that into his throws. Better arm mechanics also probably played a part. What Brady proved is that so called mediocre armed QB's don't HAVE to end up that way......if they are willing to psychotically work to change.

You could say his abilities evolved so to speak but as you say and we all saw. The man works very hard.

Now I'm REALLY glad we will add those comp picks to our larder next April. They definitely will help with our flexibility to move up and down the draft to maximize our draft. But I'm getting tired of the scenario the media (which FINALLY discovered the comp system) puts out that using the comp system is somehow a big part of the Pats success. Or even as a few have put out there, that it is an "unfair advantage" for good teams to get more draft picks

Calling it a great thing to lose a SIGNIFICANT starter and get back the 100th pick in the draft is ludicrous. At best this is a small consolation prize for the team. Sure there have been some great players taken with comp picks. I saw a list once and it WAS impressive. Of course, Brady was the first name mentioned.

But the fact is finding a significant starter with picks around 100 or lower has historically not happing very often, and is most certainly NOT and unfair advantage, or the key to the Pats success. Doesn't suck though

It is simple math. From 2019 to 2020, they increased their # of picks by 17%. Do that every year until 2030, and they'll have over 40 picks. Field two teams in 2031.

When you win SB's you will lose players others will overpay for trying to buy the magic. BB is merely leveraging the system to make the best of a situation created by the team success.

A tradeoff we all would make, ie losing very good players as a consequence of getting to/winning SB's,

Lack of arm strength by young Brady is more myth than substance.
In maybe summer of 2003 he did one of those TV NFL QB competition specials.
He smoked all the other NFL QBs in pure distance and accuracy at distance.

From what I read the NEP have 14 picks in the 2019 draft, imagine 14 picks while many will only have 7.. Roger and his minions need to get to work to change this process and somehow allow the Jets to somehow share in the wealth..

It is times and situations like this to realize that BB is playing 3D chess while most other teams are playing chinese checkers.. all those late round picks allow the Pats to find "diamonds in the rough"...

And in the meantime this 2019 NEP edition looks "locked and loaded" on paper, a very deep team..

I love that the Pats are so good at getting value out of this process but it's a terrible deal for the players because it takes a potential suitor out of the bidding process when the player hits free agency, thereby keeping contracts artificially low. If there's going to be a change to the rules it'll likely be negotiated for by the players union in the next CBA.

Interesting. IIRC Bledsoe was also good in those types of competitions. We all know how that turned out.
