Welcome To The Pats N'Keal Harry

There is a very good piece by Mark Daniels in the ProJo today comparing Harry's combine data with that of other wide receivers.

The name that doesn't come up, though, which would have interested me, is Cordarrelle Patterson. I continue to think that he has the combination of strength and nimbleness to be a threat with the ball in his hand, as CP was.

He is but probably not on gadget plays.

Half of his receiving yards were yards after reception.

I wouldn't say screens, sweeps and swing passes are "gadget plays", although he can clearly do a lot more than that. Here's an article that puts the issue very well:

"Harry’s versatility is seemingly playing against him, as he can be productive in the screen game. The issues with Arizona State’s offense arise when they begin to use Harry predominantly in this role."

Hopefully McDaniels doesn't fall into the same trap; we know how he feels about "gadget plays".

Not sure about jet sweeps, that said I could see him being very effective in the usual WR screen game, yes.

900 yards
60 receptions
8 TDs

Might be a tad less with Gordon back but I'm 100% convinced the pick will be a massive hit.

I'm optimistic about him too, but I'm more interested in his catch rate and yards per reception. If Gordon or Thomas gets 100 receptions or something insane out of nowhere I'm not going to ding Harry for lack of volume stats, provided he's making the most of it when he IS targeted.

I watched the kid's press conference, he is smart and said all the right things he sounds like a Patriot.
Impressive young man.

The physical talent is there. Man, I hope he has the mental aspect so that he clicks with Brady. It could be awesome.

For me, N'Keal Harry is the most exciting Patriots draft pick that I can remember.

Who knows how he'll develop and what they'll do about some of the insanity that comes with being more talented than everyone around him. Look at play 4 below, starting at 3:10 -- running parallel to the goal line with 5 defenders bearing down on you! That's Deion Sanders or Devin Hester crazy. But I can't wait to see him playing in a Pats uni.

The deal includes a fifth-year team option for 2023

Man do I wish we saved 1 of our 7th rounders for Stanley Morgan. Really think Cincy got the steal of the UDFA class.

Yeah and that's why the Draft process puzzles me... How was he not Drafted??
