Can Boston win the championship grand slam?

Basketball being the only global sport plays a huge role into this.

I would say hockey is a global sport too and is way more popular in Europe, Canada and Russia

I think a lot of people would find the player rankings irrelevant because they see Kyrie as a Carmelo type of player. He may be really good individually but doesn’t make players around him better or necessarily lead to more team success. Not clear why this phenomenon happens.

With him as the young alpha dog of the Cavs, they won 21, 24, and 33 games. I’m sure he had a crummy supporting cast and was younger, but those aren’t close to win totals that an elite player should bring despite challenging circumstances. I’m just throwing this out there of this because it’s all the info we have since we know the story with the LeBron Cavs and the Celtics. This doesn’t prove a fact but just suggests a little more that there’s some gap between his stats and his actual value.
How many times have the Pelicans made the playoffs with Davis? For all the talk about acquiring him, he has had little impact on the Pelicans as a team

An age breakdown would be interesting...but I do think social media is a good indicator of relative popularity as a whole.

I think it's a very good indicator of how the youngest generations are reacting to different sports. Thus baseball's low number. If AARP had social media the numbers would be dramatically different than Instagram. Again FB as the most popular medium crosses over generations. Linkedin shows how professionals react to sports. It's all about context of the target audience.

In Europe that's north of their Mason-Dixon line.

I think you’d be surprised at the number of people who are not millinials or Gen Zers who use social mediaz. Above age 65 I would agree though...

Use social media sure. Use Instagram for anything but following their kids\grandkids photos not so much.

I'm 51 and fit the profile. I use LinkedIn for news, jobs and business contacts. I use Facebook to keep up with old friends and co-workers. I use twitter like a news feed. And I only use Instagram because my teens use it. 90% of the parents I know only use instagram to follow their kids.

instagram is dominated by the younger crowd, no doubt. But the Pats and Celtics relative popularity over the Bruins and Sox also shows up on FB and Twitter....and frankly it’s not even close.

I haven't seen the numbers so I'll trust you. If you go by TV ratings it's very different. Granted with only 20 games per year the Patriots games are more of an event but their preseason games get better ratings than the other sports do locally for regular season games.

For me personally I don't miss any Patriots action. The Bruins I catch regular season game when I can but don't miss the playoffs. Red Soxs and Celtics unless I'm at somebody's house or a bar I'm not tuning in during the regular season. I'll watch the playoffs if it's convenient and have no problem going to bed during a game if I'm tired.

I’d be interested to find out what the TV ratings would be in the NE area for a Pats super bowl vs. game 7 Celtics NBA final vs. game 7 Red Sox world series vs. game 7 Bruins Cup Final...

Patriots/Rams: 57.4
Bruins/Canucks 46.4 (game 7 2011)
Red Sox/Cardinals 40.6 (2013 game 6)
Celtics/Lakers 39.6 (2010 game 7)

This is as close as you can get with deep games this decade.

There have been threads previously on what Pats SB win (IE SB 38) you'd exchange for a Pats SB loss (IE SB 42). What if you were to use this for other Boston sports? Tineframe we are using is 2001 through the Pats SB 53 win.

For example, I'd have the Red Sox lose the 07 WS in exchange for a Pats SB win in 07. The 2004 Red Sox are memorable for obvious reasons. 2013 is memorable because of what they did after the Marathon bombing. But the 07 WS win is just kinda....there. it's not particularly memorable for me. Although SB 42 stings less with each SB win, it still sticks out like a sore thumb.

Another one: I'd have the Bruins lose in 2011 in exchange for a Celtics win in 2010. Blowing a 3-2 lead in the Finals stinks. Blowing it to the Lakees of all teams sucks more.

What "exchanges" would you make? Why?

I live in the DC suburbs. Just showed your post to a friend down here. He sighed, turned and walked away.

.

Can I exchange this thread with the RIP Doris Day thread?
Asking for a friend

This is too easy. I'd trade all the Bankofamericasox World Series titles for one Patriots preseason win.

Celtics lose theirs and Bruins beat Blackhawks. But I'd rather have my scrotum tattooed than actually watch a basketball game, so that was an easy swap.

The Globe Sox can kiss their last two goodbye in exchange for the Patriots winning '07 and '17.

Because it's Friday and I'm feeling charitable with the weekend coming up, I'll let the Sox keep '04. The 2011 Patriots keep that loss. It was a miracle that team even made it to the SB anyway.

Honestly I'd trade all Boston's championship for Pats' XLII win. Don't take me wrong, Im just not bostonian.

Im over it too, haven't cried thinking about it the last 3 times

I’d trade all non Pats titles for a 7th Pats title no question whatsoever.

ILL trade the 07 redsox title for lord stanleys cup in 2013. i want the bruins to win the cup so bad i can taste it.

Dingleberry is too kind. You're a dink. How can something that doesn't exist be tattooed? Enjoy your weekend.
