NBA Draft - Trades - Free Agents

This was never an option what in the world are you talking about
not only did that scenario not exist, but it also makes no sense

It's pure hindsight reasoning but I think the Spurs would have happily taken Kyrie Irving in a trade with the Celtics last year rather than taking DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick from the Raptors.

I'm speculating that the Celtics didn't pursue this trade idea this because Leonard was a "flight risk" after this season. Now look where we are. :(

I'm a huge Kawhi fan but there were a ton of questions surrounding him during his last year with SA.

He shut himself down and basically pulled a AD and Kyrie. The leg/ankle injuries he kept mysterious to the team. Fighting with Pop (if he was challenging Pop, what would he do to "Shave once a week Stevens"? ) He started letting his uncle handle him and misrepresenting his interests/contract demands. Rumors were he was back hanging with his Crips buddies (was tight with Nipsy Hustle).

I don't know how aggressively Danny pursued a deal w/ Pops and Buford but if he walked away it wasn't the worst decision.

Now...with that said and some of those questions answered....I want Kawhi in Green- badly but that might mean Tatum or Brown need to go and I struggle w that

I wouldn't hesitate for a Second Kawhi is a complete baller.

where are we? I think we're fine and without irving, this team will be as fun to watch as it was the year before......toronto was lucky to get by the sixers, and the sixers who made deals to get butler and harris made zero progress. I think Leonard is still going to bolt from the Raptors.....3 of their starters are on the wrong aide of 30 and they'll be in cap hell if gasol opts in and they have to pay Leonard.....they will not be a better team next year.

the celts did not pursue trading irving for leonard because that was the absolute last thing the celts needed.......dump a your starting PG for yet another wing guy.......too funny

not to mention the fact that Brown after year 3 is ahead of where Leonard was in year 3 and ahead of where Giannis was in year 3....not to mention the fact that Tatum is also ahead of both guys after 2 years.......

people just need some damned patience

Word on the street is that Danny is going kiss Kyrie's you know what to stay and pursue Davis. So one of either Tatum/Brown plus Draft picks will have to go.

Exactly. Giving Kawhi ~$35m/yr is a horse pill to swallow. Brown has 1yr left on his deal and can be had for 1/2 that if he has a 20/7 season in 2019/2020 season.

It’s Portand’s year. They have that championship look and the matchups are favorable. I’m watching every game from now on. Subtract James and suddenly the NBA app playoffs are palatable.

This sounds good in theory but the rise of Leonard and especially Freak is pretty unprecedented.

Kawhi was in the best organization in basketball and Freak is well the biggest freak I've ever seen on a basketball court and the guy grew up to 6-11 and still grew while in the NBA.

Tatum looks like a well rounded player already but I'm not sure how much he can realistically improve.

He could and prove everyone right if they hold onto him and have patience but the more likely scenario is that he never becomes a superstar and the Celtics blew a big chance to acquire a superstar or several.

I'm pulling for them. POR or TOR.

We're pretty much in cap hell now.

However, I'm perfectly fine with the Celtics developing their own young players and building through the draft instead of bringing in more overpaid prima donas who "don't owe anybody sh*t."

As long as we're winning championships in every other major sport, I can be patient with the Celts.

As I admitted, pure hindsight reasoning on my part.

I assume Kawhi is going back to Cali.

The best we can hope for with Kyrie is a "sign and trade" so it's not a total loss for the Celtics.

Agree- thats the best case scenario.

No it’s not really....not when these guys are showing up at 18-19 years old.....steph curry, Klay Thompson, lillard, McCollum, jokic, Murray .... grow yer own, man!!!!

Not really....Horford gone in a year and hayward is gone in 2.....and the team has a bunch of draft picks.....the kids are more fun to watch

That mighty big of you, no doubt Ainge appreciate your largesse :D

Don’t see this anywhere in the thread so assume it wasn’t posted yet.

New Orleans won the lottery and gets #1 overall pick (almost certain to be Zion.)

My guess is Davis just became a whole lot more available.

Absolutely. This thought just struck me, as well: imagine the deal they could haul away if they paired that pick with Davis? Never happen, but holy sh##...
