TE Kyle Rudolph trade idea

Ironic that you use a Walterfootball grading system phrase because apparently you have no originality when they graded it the best pick of the 3rd round

Burkhead is a bit injury prone but to claim that giving the ball to him is "always a wasted down" is absurd. He had a huge run to help seal the Super Bowl win/get in field goal range, plus 2 TDs and a couple clutch runs against the Chiefs in 4th Q and OT.

Here's the thing. Rudolph is available. I've read where the Vikings run more 3 wide sets than 2 TE sets. Rudolph plus his cap number becomes redundant in that scenario. They could make a trade for him sending one of our myriad of young CB's for him, OR simply wait another month and the Vikes might just release him outright. Today they reported that extension talks with the Vikes had broken off.

All that being said, I think the signing of Ben Watson puts all the Rudolph talk to bed, though I'd much rather a decade younger Rudolph than the ancient Ben, but that me. We have our TE room now. ASJ and Watson look like locks with LaCosse, Izzo, and Beck fighting out for the 3rd spot, with Beck most likely winding up on the PS.

For many years our passing offense revolved around the TE position. Gronk was the player who stirred the pot. HE got the focus of the coverage, allowing other to run freer.
That's going to change, that's why I think we've gone to a plethora of tall WR's who's main attribute is that they can catch highly contested throws.

I wouldn't consider ASJ a lock and I wouldn't rule out us just having 2 TEs on the 53 man roster. And why not Rudolph and Watson?

If he is healthy in sept he will be our best TE. this kid is a binky of mine- love him. As long as he is not in the tub or in the drug program he is a lock IMO.

I hope paying Watson didn’t take us out of the running for Rudolph.

So the Vikes want to extend him and lower his cap # and (assumingly) throw some guaranteed $ his way and he said no.

I would assume the NEP would attempt to do the same thing so I deduce he isn't coming here either.

Unless he wants to be a Patriot.
I'd bet on Texans or Cardinals.

Not under his current contract certainly. But once released, he's fair game. BB has $10M in cap space so could compete if he wants him. He would go right to the TE1 slot IMO.

No question

Wonder if the Watson signing takes em out of play for Kyle.

Unless someone throws serious green at him it wouldn't be all that surprising at 29 years old to see him take an incentive laden one year deal to showcase himself in an effort to get back on the market next year and make serious bank, a la Revi$ although obviously not that extreme. The Pats get guys P-A-I-D, even if it is somewhere else.

The argument has merit. But with multiple teams interested, I suspect he will get an offer above Bill's value threshold. Usually players take the money.

True that, the operative word being usually. Stranger things have come to pass. Not saying it's highly likely to happen just that I doubt any of us would be surprised if it did.

In terms of cutting, the only TE contract that may give them pause is LaCosse who has a $500k guarantee. ASJ, Uncle Ben and the rest are out on the street without hestitation if Rudolph the Red Nosed TE is acquired
