Ben Watson signs with NE

Sounds like that tweet was when he bought into the sensationalized media headlines that Kraft was caught up in a sex trafficking ring, which was completely false

Personally I'd rather hear that they were signing him to be the TE's coach, because I think he'll be more valuable in that position.

Not to take away anything from Ben, but 38 is 38 and this is NOT a non-contact kind of position like QB. I was kind of warming to the idea of Andrew Beck being our rookie TE. I read where he ran a 4.55 40. That's pretty exciting for a 6'4 260lb TE with very little TE experience at Tx due to injuries.

Now it looks like our 3 TE's are going to be ASJ, Lacosse, and Ben. Squeezed out will be Beck and Izzo.

I wouldn’t assume any TE is a lock to make the team.

Watson wants to make a buck like the rest of us. As long as his employer isn't committing crimes against humanity he's more than willing to accept the deposit in his checking account.

Surprised this deal happened after his Kraft Tweet.

Once again illustrating there's a lot more grace in Kraft's heart than there is in his detractors

Lucky for us he never called Kraft short pecker.

So what's the over/under that he becomes a captain?

I say he does ... and it will be a fine choice - we always have great leaders for our youth.

I'm confused. If you thought it was a cold hard business decision with no grace involved then why were you surprised? o_O
I didn't think Kraft could separate emotion and work so mechanical appearantly he can.
See the Roger Godell situation.

Signing Watson wasn't a necessity, there are other TE's but there's only one commissioner. I'd think Kraft is a big enough man to understand that human trafficking pushes everybody's button and he didn't take Watson's tweet personally.

Great signing. I know many think he has nothing left in the tank, but he is still more athletic than 90% of tight ends in this league. The guy commands respect in the locker room and is the consummate pro. If he makes Brady feel more comfortable, I am pretty sure he will have some big plays for the pats this year, plus mentoring ASJ and Lacosse.

Haha Benjamin, you're so cute. Do you know who your employer is? That's right Benny, you yourself are looking the other way by playing in this league just like us fans are by watching and purchasing merchandise. Now if you happen to attempt to force change and strike indefinitely at this upcoming CBA I'd have some respect for you. But we all know that won't happen, so I got none for you. Every time you talk about this Benjamin you remember to include yourself as one of the turn a blindeye crew.

...and the guarantee SHOULD be no more than $200k

I said 1 mill as he had 3 other teams looking at him. This was his first visit and the pats made it his last, so I thought money was put on the table.

He played two quarters of one game and was then IR'd. He's an excellent example of someone having a solid career despite sitting out his rookie year.
And maybe if he didn't hold out until mid August trying to get a 5 year deal instead of 6, he shows up to camp earlier and gets in shape without trying to rush it and doesn't get injured and lose his rookie year...
PATS ROOKIE ENDS HOLDOUT, SIGNS ON

$500k is a good chunk of change. $150k id tend to agree

Then, I'm sure that Dorsett, Hoyer and Brooks must be locks because of their contracts. NOT!

Yeah, baby...hope he's got something left.

Still one of my favorite "effort" highlights...

He was an ungodly talent but never really lived up to it when he was first here.

No, but he sure beats seeing Matt LeCosse out there lining up next to the tackle.
